| My brother was about 5’11” after high school. He’s now 6’5”. Not sure how he grew with all the fast food, drug and alcohol indulgence of university, but he sure did. |
| My almost 10 year old is 5'4". I'm officially terrified. |
| Mine did not start until 15, the doctor told me 3 inches a year for 3 years.... so that was 18, he grew an inch or 2 until 20. |
My 7.5 year old is 5'1"....he is on the trajectory to hit 6'9" when he is 18.....We might need to buy a bigger car. |
People will give you numbers, but it is all based on your family genes. |
6’9”?!?!?! He will probably slow down unless ya’ll have the genes (like pp mentioned) to back up that kind of height. Who knows though! I posted about my over 5’ 11” 13 yo and even though he has always towered over all his peers the ped said he would likely end up at dh’s height. Dh is 5’ 11” so I guess DS will stop growing now? Not likely. |
Have they started puberty? |
Actually, it happens all the time. I have a now 15 year old that is 6'1". Two years ago, he was shorter than his friend who was then and still is now 5'6". Their heights today are not a surprise if you met both sets of parents. Middle school is full of some kids who have hit puberty and are all ready their full height (or very nearly are) and those that haven't. Puberty growth spurts vary (some slow and steady and some rapid bursts). But, our ped did tell my son, generally starting puberty a little later tends to add inches becuase you have a few extra inches in before you hit puberty. |

DH is 5’6”. DS1 has always hovered just under the 95 percent tile, and is rarely shorter than his teammates or classmates. He had one classmate who is really off the charts tall, but other than that almost all friends with tall dads have been shorter than him. At 13 he was at was least 5’9” and every week he seems much taller (not the reality, but it feels that way).
DS2 is about a year younger and just reaches his brother’s shoulder in height. Early on the were close in height. We don’t expect him to be tall. We don’t care about his height, but pediatricians at every visit warn me not to rule out the possibility that he may end up to his brother’s height. Why do they say this? I am not wishing for two tall kids (ok if they are). It’s like they are trying to tell me something. SMH. |
| Mine were 18 and 20. |
My nephew hit 6'2" by 14 and barely grew after that. He was super-tall his entire childhood. but stopped early. However. At 6'3" now, his dad is only 5'9" and his mom is 5'2". So you never know.... |
Same here. |
I have the 13 yo. YES he hit puberty several months ago. Maybe even a year ago. So maybe ped is right? I am okay with that. |
PP here. Parents are 5'11" and 6'6" so he has the genes. |
+1. None of this matters. My 10 yo DD and 14 yo DS are both about 5’2”. The same height. She already hit puberty. He isn’t showing any signs of it. So you can’t go by age and the stories of others. Look at your family. We are short people and if I told you I had a 10 yo daughter that height without context you’d think she would end up tall. She won’t and this is likely close to her adult height. |
