Nobody is judging my car, right?

I have a Range Rover and I love it. High net worth from inheritance - 250-300 HHI. I do think people judge me as an asshole automatically, which I'm so not (I'm popping out of it in my Old Navy workout clothes), but that's ok. I love it and I can afford it, and I don't drive slow in the left lane or refuse to let you in when you signal!

It’s not weird. There are plenty of people in the area that could easily afford much nicer cars and just don’t. It’s just not important to them to have a nicer car even if they can. Your money your choices!!

I'd actually give you points for not having a luxury and/or super huge car. I'd think you're more down to earth, whether it's true or not. Don't ever apologize for it!

I sold a beloved 1999 Toyota a few years ago, and totally regretted it! My new car sucked, and I just sold it.

It’s in good condition as far as mechanics go and I can parallel park really easily. We have two kids, no pets, so with the bike rack we have it works well for our lifestyle. And I suppose I’m also just used to it. It does have some scratches and some of the interior is getting worn, but I don’t care about those things that much.

A friend of mine teased DH and I for our car (it truly was good-natured, she is a genuine friend), and it got me wondering if this is just really weird. I won’t buy a new car until we need one but I am just curious if people who have an idea of what our HHI is because of job titles and our zip code kind of scratch their heads when they see our car.

High-end Audi driver here: I doubt there is much judgment. A lot of "car people" have fond memories of the peppy little Hondas we used to drive, and I, for one, would view that particular choice as reflecting good judgment about cars from a performance perspective. It's better than seeing yet another Jeep Rubicon in the carpool line. lol Anyone judging you for this is not worth worrying about anyway.

The Rubicons are so funny. Terrible cars.

Love my Honda Fit. If people don't like it, they can f*** right off.

I’m definitely judging you in your Prius. Most sanctimonious drivers ever.

Maybe they just like it and want to lower their impact on the earth.

Loooove my 2017 Civic, which followed a 2005 Civic.

It is so fun to drive and feels very luxurious inside. If it had some luxury brand on it I would believe it was high end.

I work with someone who makes just north of $600K/yr and drive a Toyota Rav4. He simply doesn't care much about cars - and views them as basic transportation - nothing more.

No one cares.

What kind of car do you have and how many miles do you have on it?

I would not judge you at all OP (I drive an old minivan) but my neighbors definitely would. Most of them lease luxury SUV’s and the ones that don’t drive one that is no more than 5-6 years old. Only certain brands and trim levels are “acceptable.” Also, if you haven’t recently remodeled your kitchen or master bath you are also in the vast minority. I regret moving here and don’t really fit in but my DH and kids are happy so I stay for them. Sigh.

This is a lie. Lots of people care. Is it their business? No, but since when has that stopped anyone?

We have two humble Japanese cars that match our humble abode. Since we’re in Bethesda, our neighbors have much nicer cars and houses Oh well. I’d rather people think we’re poorer than we are than richer than we are! We are definitely not into keeping up with the Joneses or display any kind of wealth.
