+1. Complaining about this is complete nonsense (and I’m a teacher who often has to park 2 blocks away in a normal school year) Car allowances are a common part of compensation packages and easier accounting than mileage reimbursement. |
Agree. And if APS didn't give a good compensation and benefits package, we would not get a good leader. Is that what people want? Duran is good. Give him a chance. |
Seriously??!?!? NO - he completely mishandled the pandemic. There is absolutely zero reason our kids have not been in class more than 2 days/week for the past several weeks. Duran took the easy road. He also DOES NOT COMMUNICATE!! Parents wanted communication throughout this and he just sent emails, made his statements, and provided zero dialogue to many that wanted it. Shutting people down, not responding, etc - He's a TERRIBLE leader |
What did you want? Daily emails and phone calls from him!?! I think I heard from Duran more in the past 10 months than from Murphy during his entire tenure at APS. |
Duran gets Secret Service protection, too??? |
Right?! He’s communicating weekly and presenting updates biweekly at the board meetings. He’s also held town halls. |
His communication was one-way.. He refused to have dialogue with parents. I personally sent him emails, never received one response. This is not communicating.. He made statements. |
That’s hilarious. You think he should personally respond to every parent email he receives?? I think you would need several full time employees to do that. |
smallest county? Not by population. And who cares if it's small, square miles-wise. The traffic light calibration seems awful and it takes awhile to get from point a to point b. |
Actually, to be superintendent of this county school system -- with its angry nervous nerd parents, who strive mightily to cement their privilege and their kids' privilege, and can't get out of bed without "researching" it -- would require a salary of at least $2 million plus appropriate bonuses. |
Dr Duran’s salary is hardly considered very high. He makes a base of $250. There are superintendents of smaller districts in tx for instance who make over $310k+. Considering the COL here I’d say he is fairly if not undervalued in his compensation. |
For real! He is the superintendent- what dialogue are you expecting? APS already asks for parent input far too often- I appreciate a superintendent who is able to say no, what’s best for your child isn’t what’s best for an entire school system! |
way, way, way undervalued. |
Angry nervous nerds indeed! He earns every penny. He really can’t do live town halls because the parents of Arlington scream and demand his resignation any time they’re given a microphone. |
Maybe he should with all of the crazy, rage-filled parents out there. Have you seen how they act at School Board meetings? |
