13 yo and laser hair removal

I had pretty good success with the Braun Pro 5 IPL at home. It's about $300 -- it says to do it 1x a week for 12 weeks and I saw a lot of improvement by week 6 or 7 on my lower legs and armpits. Might be a less expensive and easier to manage option.

Wow thanks for the tip!

If she has a tolerance for some pain/discomfort you can get an epilator at CVS or online - it takes 10-20 seconds to do armpits and it lasts 2-3 weeks or so. I like using it for vacations but otherwise I shave.

Sounds promising. So after 12 weeks, would you say your legs and pitd were all set, with no more hair?

I've been planning to get a home laser tool as well. I did laser removal in a derm-like boutique about 10 years ago and it's growing back, albeit much lighter than before. The rumor is those laser treatment centers keep the power low on their machines so you have to come back more frequently. Who knows?!

I have little areas that pop up here and there on my legs that require some touch ups, probably spots I missed at some point in the initial 12 weeks. Generally I just shave those few hairs -- they are fine and slow growing. Previously I had to shave every day and my legs looked bad by the end of the day. Now I feel like I could go out in shorts every day for a week without shaving and not be embarrassed. Pits are totally hair free.

My friend had laser hair removal done as a teen and still talks about how happy she is that she did it. I do understand it is expensive, takes months, and isn't comfortable. However, I think if her hair is very dark and thick it would be a good thing to do.

I would double check with her pediatrician that it's not too early (in case the hair would grow back for whatever reason because the follicles are not fully mature or whatever) and allow it if possible. Had it done at around 27 and it was the best money I've ever spent. It was very painful though, and be aware that it works best with dark hair (which you said she has) and light skin.

I am doing my underarms right now. I asked and they do not do girls until they are 16. They said not worth it until hormones stabilize.

White girl comment! Tone deaf and stupid as usual.

Hate speech is hate speech. If you don't want to receive it, don't give it.
