Is that everyone with an unweighted 4.0? That’s a lot. |
SO UNFAIR. I am not being sincere. |
If there are 49 valedictorians, then it's not really an honor worth adjusting your middle-school course selections for, is it? |
| Hi OP, I would like to introduce you to XANAX. Please take some. |
LOL. I appreciate you. |
I think I was at this award ceremony. If so, they said highest GPA, but didn't same the word Valedictorian. |
| You guys are wordsmithing ridiculously. The kid with the highest GPA is the same as a valedictorian. |
|
My kid will end up with a 4.86 wGPA probably. Straight As in a STEM magnet program. The weighted GPA means nothing. What will matter is the incredibly interesting electives and rigorous course-load that he took in HS.
There are no valedictorians and not even class rank in MCPS. In fact even taking APs won't matter because many of his core classes are post AP. Sometimes taking meaningless fluff APs means giving up on taking other interesting STEM magnet electives. Why would he care. He is not hurting for options |
| Do they look at semester grade or the quarter grade too to determine valedictorians? I was told that if you get any B, even if your college transcript shows 4.0 GPA, you lose your chance to be a valedictorian. Why is this info not shared? |
Weighted or unweighted. |
Same people who believe Diaper Don will be back at WH with his saggy butt? Or are these some intern comrades working for QAnon and GOP? |
Exactly. My kid got full tuition as merit aid, which is around 10-12K a yr for IS students BTW. A very good strategy by UMD to sweep up the magnet students and enhance the prestige of their CS and Eng dept. |
A kid who has 5 levels of language (3 in MS, 2 in HS), 3 of them weighted and ended with Foreign Language AP and no higher level of FL offered in HS - also comes out ahead of the kid that started taking FL in HS, and only 2 were weighted. In addition, the kid with FL AP, who scores 3 and above in AP exam ends up with the MD Seal of Biliteracy. Also, they free up 4 semester in their schedule to take more weighted electives. |
| Please advise your kids not to care who the valedictorian is ever. |
You are misinformed. The Banneker-Key scholarship actually does cover room, board, and a book allowance in addition to full tuition. I know this personally because a family member received it. |
