5. Princeton

7. Penn

After #7, there doesn't appear to be a consensus for #8 - #10. Perhaps Caltech, Brown, and Cornell?

Top 5 (HYPSM) are definitive, but not top 7. Many would place Caltech, or even UChicago, above Columbia and Penn.

1. Harvard / Stanford
3. Yale / Princeton / MIT
6. Columbia / UChicago / Caltech
9. Penn / Northwestern / Duke

That would be my list.

Between the cambridge options, MIT and Harvard, MIT is more impressive.

HYPSM are arguably interchangeable. They are the elite of the elite. Columbia is ahead of Chicago. Penn and Duke ahead of Northwestern.

1. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT
6. Columbia
7. Penn
8. Duke
9. Caltech
10. Chicago

Define "top"? What makes a university desirable to you?

MIT was hands down the most intimidating college tour. HYP were impressive but at least there are jocks and legacies, etc, walking around that are not all rocket scientists. MIT was all problem sets, etc. and even the pranks are based in science and engineering. Yikes.

No top 10 list is complete without UVA and Emory in it.

OP. Please fix your list.

Unless you are new to the country or just awoke from decades of hibernation, the answer to this question is obvious. All these ranking threads are not really notes of inquiry, but attempts to stir the pot. What a waste of time.

In all seriousness, I think that you, as an immigrant and/or international applicant, need to learn more about US employment and culture, where success is not restricted to graduates of "the top 10 universities."

A bit rich (and xenophobic?) to assume OP is an immigrant and/or international.

I agree with your list except for Duke - it's a fantastic university, but not sure if I'd unilaterally put it above Caltech or Chicago (or Northwestern, for that matter). I'd scoot Caltech/Chicago up and place Northwestern or Cornell or Hopkins at the no. 10 spot.

Not xenophobic, simply obvious. The title refers to "USA" which is a more commonly used term by non-Americans. Americans would either say US or, more likely, not even include "in the US" at all, but leave the title at "What are the top 10 universities?"

DCUM goes international!

HYPSM are the undisputed top 5 in the country.
After that, it's some combination of Columbia, Caltech, Chicago, Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and UPenn. You could even then add the rest of the Ivy League (Brown, Cornelll, Dartmouth) to round it out nicely to a "top 15".

Adding on, OP is also likely a teenager.
