is there such a thing as a non-frumpy tankini?

Takini will always look more frumpy that a one piece. It breaks up your top half and lower half, there is usually some tummy hanging out in between, the fabric moves and bunches around your middle..just no. I have yet to see one on anyone in person looks good. It is as if they are compromise of middle aged moms that want to cling to a bikini but are too self conscious about their body. A stylish and flattering one piece is always the better option

I have one from Boden- the Santorini I think? I like it and don't see how it's any frumpier than the one piece version.

Am loving the quality and pattern of what I got from https://www.naniswimwear.com/. With a long torso, there are not many one piece options from swim companies so a tankini usually works but may be a bit cropped.

Still hate the takinis, sorry. But their bikinis are very sporty and cute!

This thread is fascinating. I had no idea there was such vitriol for tankinis. I just bought my first one for this summer. I have always worn bikinis, and as I get older, I thought I would do a little more coverage. Every one piece I tried did not fit because of my long torso. So I got a tankini. I still think it looks cute and love that I can get a different size on the top versus the bottom.

a tankini can be more comfortable but it in inevitably draws attention to the saggy butt area which is not what any of us want. maybe a monotone black tankini would be better.

I have a long torso and most one-pieces are uncomfortable. I like the way they look and agree that they tend to streamline stomach areas better than tankinis, but I want to be comfortable if I'm at a pool all day chasing my kids. Tankinis it is!

I don’t get the long torso rationale. Plenty of suits come in tall/long.

Can you please explain how a tankini is any different than a bikini or a one-piece with respect to drawing attention to one's rear end? I'm genuinely baffled by this comment.

I'm skinny with a pouchy stomach, and I promise you that my stomach looks better in a tankini than in a one piece that highlights it. I have a bunch of halter ones that have a plunging front like this: https://www.barenecessities.com/product.aspx?pfid=Sunsets73DISLBL&cm_mmc=GLPA_NonBrand-_-Swimwear-_-Sunsets401-_-Sunsets73DISLBL&BillboardPopupEnabled=false&BorderfreeEnabled=False&color=Island%20Bliss&amsk=w9a4hfr3k4&cmp=sw&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2Mz8hKfj8AIVAf_jBx3eXQklEAQYBiABEgJ-zfD_BwE

Normal one-pieces don't hit me in the right spots and the crotch area really pulls, but the suits made for long torsos also don't fit. I seem to need something in between.

I also have a long torso, and have to buy two pieces. Tankinis are fine, and no more frumpy than other styles.

OP here. I have a long torso and the selection of one-pieces that come in tall/long is limited. Also - it seems sort of gross to just pull aside the crotch to pee!
