When the material is funny, he's funny doing that material, but I get zero sense he can disappear into sketch characters like several other SNL cast members (and like many cast members from the past). I always get a sense that I am seeing Pete Davidson saying lines as Pete Davidson, no matter what character he's supposed to be playing. He also always, always seems--to me, so this is IMHO--to be teetering on the verge of cracking up. That's fine in live TV at times (and was a huge part of what made Bill Hader's "Stefon" so hilarious), but I just always have that feeling he's so very tickled with himself. Pros shouldn't give me that vibe every single time, I think.
I also think a lot of people on these forums give him a pass on his performances due to his legitimately sad personal backstory. While he has definitely had a lot to deal with, and has been successful, so someone likes his work...I don't think that should give him or any performer a special pass to keep working if they're not especially versatile or interesting. Not a personal diss, just never saw enough sketch comedy chops there to understand why SNL keeps him. |
| I think he is funny. I like his delivery and feels very what you see is what you get with him. I think his standup is funny and he could also do some dramatic stuff sort of in the same vein as Robin Williams, but less slap sticky |
He has the potential to be the next Robin Williams, but his personality is not big enough. He appeals to all the Gen Z kids who love Timothee Chalamet. Talented, sort of quiet, gives off an air of “who cares?” I can’t envision Pete Davidson’s career at age 40. I really have no idea what he will do next. I can see him making a music album that somehow blows up. |
Maybe he needs to focus on standup then and stop sketch comedy. It's not automatically the same skill set for both types of comedy. |

Man he’s not funny or in any way handsome, a sickly weird lookin dude with some crappy gen z tiktok humor

I like his Chad character and (spoiler alert for King of Long Island)
The scene where the tattoos he is giving his mom's boyfriend are finally revealed- KILLED ME. His sheer lack of talent is not what I expected but really was a perfect/realistic end to the story of a f*ck up who can't NOT be a f*ck up. I mean I burst out laughing. I was thinking he's suddenly have a talent and have an awesome tattoo... nope. |
| I thought that The King of Staten Island was very good |

I don’t think he’s the most hilarious person ever.
I think in this day and age with most old white men seeming to be jerks, PD has a vibe that is humble, kind, safe and sensitive. |
+1 He is a terrible actor and doesn’t belong on sketch comedy. He just wears hoodies and is himself in everything. He gets a pass because of his backstory and he’s white. |
| He has major BDE |
Huh, I don't get this from him at all. I don't some do but I just can't see it. |

He has a very handsome face. Nice shaped nose and full lips, but his body is too skinny, pale and lanky for me. He also wears weird outfits like jeans with sweaters, socks with Crocs and stupid Bathing Ape attire.
So from the neck up he has it going on, even though I think he has horrible acne. I think he makes SNL funnier. He seems to jibe well with the guest hosts. They do not put him in enough sketches though. He breaks character a lot, but then again so does Kenan. (See last week’s Muppet Show sketch!) He is not your typical cookie cutter celeb. For one he lives in Staten Island, home of Wu-Tang Clan. Second he doesn’t appear to have a personal stylist. More importantly he just comes across as a real, humble down to earth guy. Someone cool to hang out with. I don’t think his tragic past has anything at all to do with his skyrocketing fame. I think his engagement to Ariana Grande put him on the map. He is a talented comic, makes fun of himself often and is relatable to almost anyone. What you see is what you definitely get. His Chad characters are so on point. His musical segments on snl are amazing. I think most girls adore him for his good looks and charm, his sense of humor and his ability to not take himself seriously. Most men hate him because they see a regular guy who seemingly gets the prettiest girls on the planet without doing much. Kaia Gerber, Ariana, Kate Beckingsdale and now that up and coming talented beauty from Bridgerton. He can have anyone in Hollywood he wants. He’s definitely the epitome of the word “Cool.” |
Old lady here, but what exactly is BDE?? |
| Pete is adorable |
