He is funny. His brain appears to be understandably messed up due to his dad dying on 9/11. He probably does the drugs to mask the pain. He seems to be stepping up his game on SNL. Hope he continues to do well.

I’m annoyed that Davidson gave that guy any publicity whatsoever. The Chad sketches are funny. But this is the funniest thing he’s ever done IMO.

He’s pretty funny. The Chad one with Julia Louis Dreyfus was one of the funniest Chads.
Weirdlt, I was sure I saw him in some other movie...where he played like a friend of a main character? I thought he was surprisingly good but now can’t find it on his IMDb. Maybe it was a fever dream.
The movie review he did jointly with John Mulaney on weekend update of the Clint Eastwood vanity project was truly hilarious.

It’s probably some pre-existing stuff as well. I’d bet good money he has adhd, which predisposes you to addiction. And a lot of firefighters have a predisposition to seeking out adrenaline creating situations. So he may take after his dad in that. If you have that personality, you need to find a positive outlet for it. Performing is a good way to get an adrenaline hit, but it’s not consistent enough for a lot of performers.
