One of the post above said it very well. This is a niche school. Not for everyone. We have our kids there and have been positively impressed so far with very satisfactory academic impact. Great teachers and focused environment. Check it out and do not dismiss just from reading this forum.

Physical Environment: No library, limited technology, an elementary school sized gym, a playground that is a converted parking lot, not opening a cafeteria as promised, kids scrambling amongst construction workers at pick up

And the above are only some of the impacts.

Hard to imagine Vern wanting to change schools again at his age, so one can only conclude that he had some intractable issues with the management. What a loss for BIM.

I can't understand why some people seem to think this. As a Basis parent, I say good riddance. His lack of social skills and arrogance made my child miserable. Much better exercises with Ms. Baljee and Mr. Calhoun.
There are plenty of very good teachers at the school and the ones that are coming will be ok. It's going to be ok Karen, relax.

If Vern is only leaving now and hasn't announced before, the school will be hiring someone in the last wave of leftover teachers to replace him. The sterling candidates are long gone.

That's how the steady erosion happens. They won't just clone one of your favorites to take over Vern's classes. Decades of teaching experience are walking out the door.
