I think they said they were going to do that this year. Someone can probably find a link about it but I don’t have time right now.

VDOE d not change any of the SOLs. They are the same as if we didn't have a pandemic.

I stand corrected. They did not change the test. But they changed what you need to pass. Pre pandemic you needed 400 to pass. This year you need 350 to pass.

The 350 is NOT the pass rate for this year. It is still 400. They're using the 350 score for high school (and MS math) students ONLY to allow them to get verified credit for their course.

Thanks - the person who told me was a MS math teacher. But does it even matter if you “pass” the others - except for the ones where they lowered it to 350?

I’m a HS teacher. Unless it’s somehow different in middle, which I don’t think it is, the pass rate for all SOLs is 350 this year.

This is not the case of elementary, the pass rate is still 400. On the VDOE website, there is a memo that explains which SOLs were lowered and which were not.

My kid got some perfect scores way back when. A perfect SOL score is of no benefit to your kid. It does not matter toward their grades, toward the classes they are placed in, toward the home work they get, nothing. It makes zero difference at school. Nada.

My kid has gotten a perfect score in math every year but reading is a different story.

Not entirely true, as 6th graders' scores on the 7th grade math SOL is a threshold for placing them in 7th grade algerbra.

And my hunch is that only the ones that “matter” for anything at a minimum level - are the ones that were lowered.

Can you explain this? We only had 7th grader take Algebra SOL so she can get verified credit. So she needs 350? Not 400 to get verified credit but she may not pass?

Your 7th grader will still have to pass Algebra 2 in 9th grade so it doesn’t really matter. All high schoolers have to pass a high school math SOL in high school - except for the class of 2023 because they all got verified credit for their math class last year with the pandemic.
