LOL. That's a frustrating but fun kind of guy. |

It depends. We have a neighbor with a small dog that barks incessantly anytime someone walks by. I wouldn't want to live near that family - it would drive me crazy.
We have an invisible fence (previous owners used it), but I would never let my dog out front with it. My dog is a German Shepherd and I know some people are afraid of them, and I don't need people to be scared to walk by my house. We use the back fence, which is a privacy fence, instead. |
| Etiquette question: yes it’s rude. Especially a big dog. Can you do it anyway? Sure. You can pee out your front door too but that doesn’t make it right. |
Only a regular fence will keep people out of your yard. You could be liable if your dog bites a child or you could open the front door and find your dog was mauled by another dog. Seems risky. I’d only use one if I had an HOA that prohibited regular fences, and I would never let my dog out unsupervised. |
| Sadly, this morning on our local nextdoor site, a woman posted that her 120 pound dog escaped through her electric fence and was hit by a car and is in surgery this morning because he was seriously injured. Her post was to complain about the hit and run driver, however, another reason why an electric fence is not appropriate if you have a large dog. They are much more likely to break through the electric fence than a small dog. I have a small dog but I also have a fenced backyard. And electric fence seems to be not as safe for the dog than a regular old fence. |

We have a new neighbor who put up an invisible fence in their front yard with a pitbull dog. It has already escaped once. They are gone all day to work and nobody wants to go outside in fear of that dog. I have a little granddaughter and won't go outside with her, because their dog starts barking at us. We know he has already escaped once. We shouldn't be living in fear! I've already been attacked by a pit bull in our neighborhood when I went walking. She knocked me down and growed in my face while I was on the ground, but I got lucky, because I screamed and she ran off. The police found her and the dogs owner got a situation.

We had an electric fence because we had a corner lot and were not allowed to put up a physical fence. (No front yard fences allowed and a corner lot is deemed a front yard). Definitely not as secure as a physical fence.
Very easy for a fast, high energy dog to break through. I never left my dog unattended in the yard and really only off leash if we were actively playing outside. If I had the option to use a fenced backyard I woukd use that every time. Yes it’s rude and it’s also super stressful for the dog. |
| People leave their dogs outside unsupervised? |
| We had one and I hated it. I got it because my DH refused a real fence and it was about 1/3 of the cost of a real one. For many of the reasons mentioned it was not a good thing. If my dog escaped, which he did probably 3 times in 5 years, it I'd hate the zap he got and the fact he was in the road (no sidewalk) and I really hated the people who'd just stroll onto our lawn with their own dogs, without asking first if it was ok. Sometimes it worked out and sometimes it did not, depending on whether the dogs got along or not. |
+1 I think it is fine. My neighbors have their two dogs outside - so what? They are dogs - what are they supposed to do? Stay inside all day? Go on one walk? We walk our dog once every other day or so, and we just walk on the other side of the street, so as to not antagonize the dogs that are in their own (!!) yard. It is really no big deal, and part of being in a community. If you want to live with no people, dogs, whatever around, you need to move further out, OP. The neighbors with electric fence are well known by now. Most have signs, but either way, if you see a dog in their yard, just cross the street. They are in their yard, and they have every right to be in their yard. They are not "out of control" - they are in their yard. It's not dangerous because (wait for it) they are in their yard. I have another neighbor with one dog who barely walks it - want me to report them? Y'all are insane, and need to worry more about yourself. You seem looking for trouble, OP. |
That is trespassing, so you can do what you want with it, but if you have cameras, and something happens to them, they have no case. |
It is not stressful for the dog, unless a passerby is purposely antagonizing the dog, which you better hope is not the case, for their sake. |
You make no sense. Good way to get sued - walking around in other people's yards. Good luck with that. |
+1 OP is wishful thinking. |
| OP, are you endangering your child by walking to close to a property with an electric fence? I certainly hope not. That won't end well. |
