Diagnose me! Wth is going on?

This was my thought. I think you need to get to an urgent care and have them run several panels of blood work to rule out various possibilities.

I did, they did draw several labs. I’ll have to wait about 5 days for the results, but at least the process has started.

To answer some people’s questions: I do see a hematologist for the anemia (it’s severe iron deficiency due to malabsorption. I also am allergic to it - who knew that was a thing? - so they give me IV anti-allergic meds before each infusion). I haven’t seen my hematologist recently (I see him twice a year), but my next one is coming up in two weeks.

I literally just listened to a podcast on my walk about chronic infections .... potentially could be ... they are often hard to diagnose. Apparently the bullseye with Lyme is not always apparent in a large percentage of cases.

Look up Dr. Steven Phillips In CT ... he just wrote a book Chronic

Have they checked for B-12 deficiency? It can cause anemia and has many of the symptoms you described. With malabsorption, celiacs or sibo are also possible and would go along with the anemia.

Yes, my hematologist checks my B12 every time he doesn’t a full iron panel.

Definitely need to see a rheumatologist. Go to a primary care who will give you a referral to one.

The anemia can certainly explain the brain fog though not the fever. did you discover the source of your anemia? I don’t think you will get a lot of help at an urgent care but they at least can do basic labs. I would call back to dr’s office and say you are ill and want the soonest possible appt. good luck!

So one of my best friends saw the Dr (we go to the same one) about 3 weeks ago and she said she was 28 weeks. I didn’t even know the Dr was pregnant! My friend also had a follow up scheduled for next week, so I think the Dr went on maternity leave way earlier than expected so I don’t think they had plans to absorb all her patients this soon. I’ll have to wait 3 wks to see the new person, who is new to the practice and doesn’t start there until next week.

Hmm. I am ni alarmist but I would not wait 3 weeks with recurrent fevers. I think you should find one of the urgent cares that does primary care too-you need a thorough physical and extensive labs. Alternately, you could ask to speak with the nurse at your practice and describe the situation. They may squeeze you in sooner or run some initial labs before the appt.

+1 - three weeks for an ill visit is unacceptable. Sorry the Dr. went out unexpectedly but stuff happens. They need to work you in or at least run labs.

Another vote for Lyme (although you should get it all checked out). My DH didn't even know he had a tick but he had fevers on and off for a month. He was falling asleep and achy. He had two of the three markers for Lyme but when he was finally put on doxycycline, it cleared up.

All of the doctors are booked, but you should not wait 3 weeks. Find one who will take you so you can start of the process of figuring out what is going on.

A vote for autoimmune disease. My mother had literally all of those symptoms, including the weird mouth pain, intermittent fevers, hot/cold flashes, neuropathy, brain fog, and probably more that I am forgetting. Ultimately she was diagnosed with vasculitis - they couldn't settle on whether it was "Granulomatosis with polyangiitis" or "Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA)"

She responded well to treatment (imuran, and later rituximab) and has been living mostly symptom-free to 10 years now. Hopkins in Baltimore has a great rheumatology clinic if you need specialized attention.

Interesting, I know nothing about vasculitis, but it does sound like she had a lot of my symptoms. It’s definitely worth looking into this. Thank you, PP!

Who diagnosed you with malabsorption? Did they run a celiac test? Or suggest you see a GI?

Everyone who says “long term Lyme disease” is misleading you. Those people turned out to have autoimmune disease.
