It is a thing. It's called atypical anorexia and hasn't been recognized as an OSFED for very long. I think around 7 or 8 years now.
Losing 100 lbs by restricting food & starving yourself definitely qualifies, even if you're still obese. It is actually one reason why AAN (atypical anorexia) was recognized as a legit disorder - so many people were presenting with anorexia behaviors but without the typical anorexic bodytype. |
| I don't think that you can become that obese without an eating disorder. I'm not sure if Anorexia is the right word for it though. Obese people tend to binge on food and then go on extreme diets. I think that is fundamentally different from an anorexic who has issues with perfectionism. Just throwing that out there, American Psychology Association. For free. |
Actually, you can. Imagine eating an extra slice of pizza or dessert every day— so 500 calories more than your body needs to maintain the same weight. It’s not binging, but it adds up over time. On top of that, many people who lose substantial amounts of weight need fewer calories to maintain that weight vs someone of the same weight who has never lost substantial weight. So, as an example, a formerly obese person might maintain a weight of 1XX pounds on 1200 calories while someone who has never been obese might maintain the same weight on, say 1600 calories. So the formerly obese person can regain weight very quickly on what objectively might be a fairly standard diet, or even on a relatively restricted diet. |
| I wish her well, physically, emotionally and psychologically. She has a lot of work to do. I think some people who formerly or originally were food restricters, even if it was in their adolescence decades ago sometimes think of themselves that way even as the eating disorder evolves as it often does, into more formally resembling bulimia or binge eating disorder. Sometimes there is a sense of pride in having anorexic behaviors (perversely) as it is associated with deep self control while there is often more significant and deep shame about binging. Not sure if that is happening here. I would wonder about a past history of ongoing sexual abuse or other trauma. Feel for her, she must be in such pain. |
Yes. I think for eating recovery purposes its less about the focus on calories though and weigt loss (which may or may not happen) and more about the relationship a person has with themselves, food, how they use food, their body image, distortions in thinking, etc. None of that is going to be on display in a selfie obviously and maybe over time she will be able to unpack the meanings and motivations that drive her to post like this. |
| I have suffered from ED for 20 plus years. Regardless of what she is going through, I have compassion. It is a horrible fight to recover. I can’t imagine having my living be my body and having to recover. It is an awful feeling and you hate yourself everyday. |
I'm not seeing any noticeable weightloss. The top of her underwear and the bikini are sitting differently in location to her belly button, but she looks exactly the same size-wise in these photos. If you're so big that you lose 100lbs and it's not readily apparent... you have a problem.... and that problem is not anorexia. |
| seriously who is this lady and why do we care? lots of people out there struggling with weight and what people think about their weight. model is a stretch |
She called herself the 'first' plus-sized supermodel. Instead of schilling diet teas on Instagram, she shills the fantasy of body positivity no matter if your size is crushing your organs. That was all fine for her until Covid essentially assured an early death sentence if she caught it. |

| Don't comment on my body but here are some pics of me almost naked. |
| Could she be more desperate for attention? She is an unknown. She does not look healthy at all. Stop posting if you dont want comments. |
|
I feel bad for her because I understand that struggle but at the same time I think its disingenuous to have a problem with people reacting/commenting on her body when her whole career is....posting photos of her body? I mean instagram is a visual medium. Full stop. If you have no feedback, or comments you dont have a way to monetize IG as a career. So you actually NEED people to post comments on your photos. It really isn't different than say a hairstylist IG person telling people not to comment on the photos of their bayalage. Well, then what is the point of that as a career?
If its triggering, she needs to stop a career that is 100% based around one's physical appearance. |
This is what I was trying to say but better. This is the very wrong career choice for someone who deals with EDs |
Which one is before and which one is after? I don’t see a difference at all. Ironic, how she champions body positivity, but does not have positive self-image herself. She should lose weight under supervision of a medical professional not tell people it’s ok to be so fat. |
