Don't listen to the people here who have no idea what they are talking about.
My kid had same stats and got into st. Mary's, elon, st Joe's, pitt, jmu, college of Charleston, unc Willington, unc Ashville, and got meritat several of them. Relax, your kid is going to be successful in his college search and without the stress all the other people who think their kid is a top tier kid |
| ODU, Radford, High Point, Longwood, West VA U, Virginia or WV Wesleyan, Salisbury, Frostburg, UMBC, St Mary’s. |

Step 1: don't use DCUM as your primary source of info for college searches.
Step 2: Check out the Fiske book or an online college search like Big Future from College Board and play around with variables to find some possibilities. Once you have those, you can check with Naviance to see the ranges from your school as a guideline. There are plenty of options out there. If he knows what he is looking for (location, setting, programs, size, etc) it will be even easier to narrow down the search. Some great ideas already suggested, I'll add RIT to the list. Good luck and don't stress! |
| If NY is of interest, OP/PP son's will get into Hofstra with money (Zarb is an incredible biz school), Pace University also great money, and their internship/co-op placement is their strength. Both 25k merit per year. Adelphi is another. |
If you're saying that your son would be full pay, I think that means most schools ranked below the top 100 will be thrilled to have him, and he'll probably have about a 30 percent chance of getting into any given private school ranked about 40 to 100. |

A few more ideas
Trinity Connecticut college Providence Gettysburg Bucknell Rollins U Mass BU Does he ski? U of Utah St Thomas Catholic U AU GW If you’re full pay you likely can pay to hire an outside consultant I think that will expand your ideas |
I think this poster is still living in 1994, although advice about getting a consultant is solid. There are plenty of options for OP’s son, but not BU, UMASS, Providence or even the lower NESCACs. OP, he may have better luck outside of this region: Dayton Xavier Bradley UT Dallas Tampa Roger Williams (RI) URI UNC Wilmington |
Hear, hear! I don’t know where people got the handing out As rumor from. Perplexing. My kid is working her butt off for her grades, and they aren’t all As! |
Bucknell or GW. Those would be reaches. |
| George Mason. |

My son graduated last year ('20) with similar GPA. His ACT was 30 and SAT was 1310.
He had some pretty unique ECs (unique enough that I don't want to post here) and was an Eagle Scout. Just FYI was rejected at JMU and Christopher Newport, accepted at Longwood He was accepted at several out of state "large flagship" schools that have very high acceptance rates (80+%) and was also awarded large scholarships from them, making the out of state tuition not so bad. |
Which ones? |
University of Alabama West Virginia University |
WVU is a great option for kids in this area! Thanks for mentioning it. |
The amount of money they were willing to give made it comparable in price to in-state (VA) schools! |
