How long after completely weaning did your period return?

Someone whose period returns prior to weaning isn't going through what I'm curious about, because weaning obviously has nothing to do with their return to fertility.

Your subject line and lack of any information in your post didn’t state that you had weaned or that you were interested specifically in the return of fertility. Ask a broad question, get broad answers.

A period means return to fertility. That's what getting your period means.

Not really. As I said you can ovulate before you bleed and not all bleeding indicates ovulation is happening.

Let's cut to the chase, how old is your baby and how old was s/he when you stopped BFing?

1. Breastfeed
2. Stop breastfeeding completely
3. Get your period?

How long was the time between step 2 and 3?

1. Yes, 12mo with first, 14 months with second
3. Got my period the first time in both cases 4-6 weeks after the last day I did even one feed

6 weeks post partum while breastfeeding full time...

OP here- I'm laughing a bit. I'm asking about when your period returned after weaning. This doesn't apply to you! Or may other responses. Sheesh.

Perhaps you don't understand...it's unusual to not have a period while breastfeeding.

It's really not. Many women don't resume their period until they've weaned.

OP- thank you! You are actually answering my question.

This is not the question asked.

OP,

As a research biologist, I can begin to answer your question: while we know that prolactin partially impacts menstruation, as PP said, there are so many instances of women getting their periods while exclusively and frequently breastfeeding that clearly other things are going on. Hormonal pathways and what they trigger is a fascinating field of science which we still know so little about.

Also, asking a broad question then posting to say you're laughing because the first posters didn't answer in the way you wanted, is rude, and you should stop doing that unless you relish the ensuing comments.

Maybe in Africa. In the West in well nourished women the vast majority will get their period back well before they've weaned. The average is 6 months. So... you're just wrong and asking about outliers and wondering why you're not getting outlier responses.

I breast fed for 17 months. Got an RX for progesterone about two months after weaning, which worked to jump start my period.

PP here, according to my doctor it isn't abnormal to not have periods while breastfeeding. There's a broad range of normal, so don't feel bad or abnormal if your experience is different from someone else's.

Six months IF YOU'RE STILL BREASTFEEDING. I'm asking about when your period returns while you're breastfeeding. I'm asking about when your period returns if you wean your baby before it returns.

I didn't ask a broad question. I asked a very specific question- if you weaned completely and then your period returned how long was that interval. Posters here are just so self involved they answered with their experience despite it having nothing to do with the question.

To the posters who responded with relevant info, thank you! That was helpful.

And you're so self absorbed you can't handle the fact your experience is the outlier.

BTW you should still take that pregnancy test!

Well before I weaned. With both kids, my period returned at 12 months but I bf-ed for longer than that.
