Besides, he just sounds dumb or aggressive. He was holding up a lecture with this: "Bhattacharya expressed a scientific skepticism that a microaggression could be distinguished from an unintentionally rude statement." Obviously microagressions or racism or sexism cannot be scientifically determined. I think his first question was fine since he asked for clarification.

Personally, I would never waste my time attending a conference on "microaggression." WTF is with our hard-earned tax dollars getting abused with microaggressing spenders acting like entitled douches who think nothing of spending $100,000 studying "microaggression."

I’m sure UVA will offer some mealymouthed apology and settle this before it goes to court because they know they can’t defend themselves. The presenters are probably so used to not being challenged they probably felt “micro-aggressed” for having to defend their claims.

The more this kind of crap happens and IS REPORTED, the more fed up the American public will become. I suspect this kind of story happens much more frequently, but is just not reported.
Things have gotten totally out of whack when it comes to "equity" and "racism" and "marginalized people." The pendulum is starting to swing back.

I’d bet serious money this student was a trump voter.

He’s just trying to cause trouble, and fishing for a settlement check, like some slip and fall con-man. Too bad someone on campus couldn’t arrange an accident that would incentivize him not to come around anymore.

It sounds like his questions were quite thoughtful and the speaker could not justify her position.

I imagine there is “more to the story” (as evidenced by the Reddit discussions).
No one is getting kicked out of medical school for politely expressing an intellectual disagreement. GMAFB. You want a mental ill psycho for your doctor?

Have you read the transcript. The presenter was awesome.

He wasn’t asking questions he was trying to “make a point” which is sophomoric. He was just annoyed that when he tried to “make a point” she simply answering his question. He just didn’t like the answer. When he couldn’t sway her opinion to admit her slide definition wasn’t precise and it should be he wanted to press on with more questions. But sorry, this is a panel ask your question and your follow up and sit down.

BUT, and this is a huge but -- the judge acknowledges that universities can enforce professional standards. The university's defense is this guy is a jerk with what would be alarming bedside manner. There is no evidence of belligerence at any point. You are inventing that detail.

There’s no evidence at all. There is only the plaintiff’s allegations and attempts to try it in the court of public opinion via right-wing media, which is gullible for things like this.

Always be skeptical of someone with an axe to grind. The detail down thread about him trying to dox committee members online ... sort of makes the university’s case.

I think this type of perspective has value for a medical professional who will treat people of all races and creeds. Take off your reactionary hat and think a little harder. Bedside manner still matters.
