White people are coming to terms with the fact that they can't all live in Bethesda and North Arlington. |
or, folks are realizing that parts of PG have been underpriced for some time |
Same thing. |
Not really. |
|
What "folks?" White folks? bc black people have always lived in PGC. They didn't have to "realize" anything |
|
Dcum can make anything unpleasant.
The house is cute but I’m a little shocked by the idea that a 1-level house can be $500k now in Mt R. |

this is one downside of mount rainier... the whole "gentrifier" resentment thing |
this is one downside of mount rainier... the whole "gentrifier" resentment thing Mt Rainier has been a pretty diverse place for a long time now. It was a sundown town before it was mostly black, and now it is fairly balanced as places go. Ime there’s some resentment about rising prices and taxes but it’s not the same as the “gentrification” conversations happening elsewhere in the area. It’s nuanced. Places are complicated. I will say that Mt Rainier is extremely friendly. It’s pretty nuts. If you take a walk, you’re going to chat with several neighbors. |
Why shocked? |
I’m considering buying this at 500k or slightly over list. |
I think if you look, you will find few houses that size selling for that much. But, obviously prices are going up and this one is really cute. I’m not saying it’s not a good value - I like it! And the neighborhood is great. I also like that block. |
Any bigger house will go way over 500k here. Mount Rainier has already hit 700k+. |
That whole triangle of Rainier, Upshur, and 32nd is super cute! |
I think the residents are finding some of the new development unpleasant. It is an inexpensive community full of artists, hippies, etc. Like Takoma Park 30 years ago maybe? |
