Is my kid reading too much into this note?

Rooting for you. I’m thinking along the lines of 19:21.

Can you tell us what season the sport plays in college?

Let’s remember that coaches were the college people cashing in on the admissions scandal. I would be cautious about believing they have any pull for a non-scholarship athlete.

You have no idea if OP’s daughter is applying for DI, DII or DIII. Given that coach is contacting daughter cold, I’m guessing DIII. So there are likely no scholarship athletes at all.

OP, many years ago I got a similar letter from a coach I had never contacted at a (DIII) school I was waiting to hear an admissions decision from. I was accepted.

OP here. You guys had asked for an update. No acceptance decisions out yet, but my daughter did receive an additional personalized invite to an online movie viewing and chat w the current team.

I was cautiously optimistic after the first note, but I'm now at a point that I think they're #($* if they don't accept her. She got waitlisted at another top choice over the weekend, so really hoping this works out.

Thanks for the update, OP. That does sound like another positive sign and I hope it works out for her!

OP again. Just wanted to come back again to confirm that yes, she did get into the school. I still don't understand how the coach knew about her, but, in this case, an email from a coach did indeed indicate good news to come.

Now is the school's turn to be on pins and needles. They have until May to stew over this. Let them wait.

Aw, don't do this. Some other kid may be on pins and needles, too, at other schools where OP's daughter is holding slots. Practice kindness and recognize that for every action there is a reaction. OP's daughter doesn't need to be a jerk like you're suggesting, PP.

That is great—thanks for the update!

If it was a personal note, yes she could read some into it.
If not, it is a ploy to get her and college thinks she might have more options and is trying to draw her to choose their school.
I think depending on mass mail or personal, two interpretations are possible.
Can you tell if it is a personal e-mail? If so, yes, she could read into it.

Oh, didn't see this update! I just wrote that she could read into it if it was a personal note. Coach knew about her from the admission that is trying to get your dd to choose their school and are uncertain that she will.

I'm confused why your daughter never contacted the coach in the 1st place.

Anyway, congrats. I suggest she email the coach and say was accepted and she intends to try out (assuming she is going to try out).

There are zoom meetings and work outs over the summer.

My son was a 'preferred walk-on" and he got a scholarship after the 1st year, good luck.
