I think that roller shades and woven (roman) shades would also look good. It sounds like you have a modern farmhouse vibe going.

Thanks. When we moved in, there were ripped and broken old cellulars, which is currently what we still have and why Im prioritizing this project. Im not sure exactly what our style is because we are pretty much trying to update everything. Were adding all oil rubbed bronze hardware throughout the house, getting a craftsman front door, need new rugs and couches and are staying in the blues/grey family. Adding higher chair rail and shadowboxes to our dining room. Our living room has a brick floor to ceiling brick fireplace. We want to update the mantel in some way. Id day when all is said and done, it will be a modern rustic/farmhouse vibe.

you're going to need texture and something to warm up the shiplap, brick and blue/grey. I would go with woven grass in a natural color (not stained dark, not bleached lighter). I see these in all kinds of houses and they always look great to me. I have used them in our bungalow beach house that has a boho vibe as well as here in our family home in Arlington that is more updated traditional. I've also used them in the bleached/white for one house where we needed them to "disappear" whether up or down against the light walls, yet they still succeeded in bringing in texture and warmth.

I agree with you the plantation and white wood slats will block light and feel cold.

Thanks so much for this helpful response!
I should have specificed more, in terms of decor, we are trying to do pops of blue, coral, mustard type color scheme with grey and blue couches depending on the rooms. We just are in the beginning phase of it all so its not done yet. I would like the window treatments to add texture and give the room a finished feel, while still being neutral enough for us to be able to change decor color as needed/wanted.

You're welcome! The photo embedded above is exactly what I'm envisioning. Depending on the depth of your windows, you'll probably have to do outside mount. Just try to do it without the backer board so it doesn't sit out away from the window. I prefer the shade to rest on the window frame rather than sit .5" in front of it.

I have these in my kitchen. I like the look, but keep in mind that while they defuse light nicely, they provide no privacy at night. You can see right through them from outside when the lights are on (I chose a denser one hoping it would provide a little bit of screening, but it really doesn't). Order one before you commit -- I should probably have done something else.

Where are these from?

They look like top-down roman shades?

They’re top down Roman shades from the Shade Store.

Do you happen to know which fabric that is? One of the linens?

The post says they are natural grass weave Roman shades. I love scrolling The Shade Store on Instagram because they post all the info! And it helps me visualize all the different options.

Sorry that’s not right. It’s their top down, bottom up Roman shade in linen sheer, oatmeal.

I did look at their gallery and couldn't find it, but will check Instagram next.

I was pricing out some of the fabrics and some of the sheer fabrics required a liner so I was trying to figure out which one this was.

Thanks! This seems like a good option.

I went down this rabbit hole too and decided on cordless faux wood Blinds from Home Depot in white. A clean look that’s neither too cold and modern nor over traditional like roman (we currently have the same style but with cords and they’re broken). We have painted walls with bolder colors upstairs so the white will pop.

Im definitely planning to do the fauz wood white blinds in our 4 bedrooms. If the room you put them in had 8 large(ish) windows, do you think the faux wood blinds would look good? I was thinking theyd be too busy looking with so many windows.

OP—can you post a pic of a home with a similar window setup? I think it would help.

We chose simple white roller shades for our room. They were simple but not inexpensive or cheaply made. The emphasis is on the window and the light it allows in. It’s simple and clean but not boring or plain. Beautiful windows and artwork bring in the color. Sometimes less is more.

Which ones did you select?

+1

Or explain the window layout? Are they 8 separate windows? Any that are grouped together? Any French doors or anything like that?

Smith and Noble classic roller shade Elements White (inside mount with deluxe cassette valance). I like that we have no competing colors in window treatments. It makes the ceiling feel higher and room feel large, open and airy. Color comes from original art purchased from galleries and from outside greenery.

This is OP. I dont know how to post pics.... but here is the layout...

1) Its a family room. One wall has shiplap and tv in the middle. This is the wall that the sectional couch faces. There is a window on each side of the tv.

2) The largest wall of the room has three windows that are all touching each other, like attached, but could be individual window treatments. This wall looks out onto backyard.

3) There is then a sliding door out to the back yard and a nook type area that is part of the room but off of the family room....currently a playroom, eventually a sitting area with a table probably. This area has a single window on one wall and a double window on the wall next to it. This area of the family room is directly off the kitchen.

This is just a PSA for anyone who wants to know how to post pics.

1. Find a photo on Pinterest or wherever and right click on it.
2. Select "copy image address"
3. Come here. Hit "post reply" and then hit the Img button, copy the link, and then hit the Img button again.
4. Preview the post to make sure it worked.

You can also upload your own photos on imgur.com. It will give you a link to your photo, and then you do the same things as above. (But I feel weird posting pictures of my home since people are mean.)
