Annapolis High School pyramid is definitely worth a look for a diverse school that meets your other requirements. Unfortunately within the school there's definitely a lot of defacto segragation between the magnet/white/richer students and the more diverse/less affluent general ed students. I suspect that's true of nearly all "diverse" schools though.

We considered Annapolis previously and the lack of diversity is definitely what swayed us against it. I don’t think we would feel comfortable going from an almost 100% Black neighborhood to the opposite. Which sucks because there are some new builds that are even within our price range out there.

God I wish people on this board would actually know what they are talking about before posting.

Annapolis High School is 31.5% white! 26% black and 35% Hispanic.
I’d say it’s a whole lot more diverse than the vast majority of schools out there.

People think every town in Anne Arundel County is 97% white people walking around in KKK outfits. Annapolis, Severn, Crofton, Odenton, and Gambrills are all quite diverse to varying degrees and also quite Democrat.

Some people use the term "diversity" to mean majority black instead of plurality/minority white, though I can't say for sure that's the OP's intent.

"Diversity" is certainly a word that means different things to different people.

+1 There are other less expensive communities like Elkridge, but as you go north in Howard County, your commute becomes longer. The Eastern part of Howard County is very diverse.

Define "decent".

Could look at spending less money on a house and sending kids to parochial school. I've contemplated this.

you mean 4/10 Blair or 3/10 Northwood. That isn't what people with better options consider decent

Rockville High School cluster in Montgomery County.

1 hr commute? That would be a no. And Monrovia which ends up at Linganore HS is not diverse.

Not what most people consider to be affordable housing prices. You are paying unreasonable housing prices for the school district which is no longer as top-notch as it used to be. The school district has made some terrible decisions over the last few years and you are no longer getting as good a school system as the housing prices should merit.

In PG look for homes zoned for Olge or Tasker middle school and Bowie High School. Or for home zoned to Greenbelt Middle School and Eleanor Roosevelt High.
Those schools are all majority POC if that is important to you.

If your kids are academically gifted, the options in PG expand a lot. You can live anywhere zoned for the TAG programs at Greenbelt, Tasker or Kenmoor. (North of 50-ish or in Bowie) and have great school options. The vast majority of elementary schools in PG are perfectly fine, I wouldn't put a lot of weight in the Great Schools scores, rather look at Parent ratings.
Our elementary school has a Great School rating of 4 but the parents ratings are all 5 stars. It is a great community and our kids love it there.

You can get a nice SFH in the Manor Woods community that feeds into Rock Creek Valley ES or Barnsley ES for around $500K. It is a great deal and Rockville HS is truly diverse and has an IB program. The issue with MCPS is the BoE, not the curriculum or its teachers.

It's really sad people are so ignorant they think they can reduce a school to a score. The DCC has amazing programs at the high school level. We would love to find a home at $500k in this area but housing is also getting really expensive there
