Hope you are all emailing Marsden. He sent a very stupid reply back to me last week and didn't reply to my follow up Q. Basically he doesn't want schools open until teachers and kids are vaccinated. I asked, when exactly do you think schools should open, because there's no vaccine for kids yet? and he never replied... |
No, she's just motivated. Maybe you should get up off the sofa and do something productive. |
OMG, they wrote the letter in such a way that you cannot tell that the bill is for opening schools in the FALL!! So people are going to read that, not read the actual bill, and send the letter. This is why I hate politics.
Dear Colleague, The Virginia Senate is considering a bill (SB 1303) that would force every school division in Virginia to offer in-person instruction to every student, based on the preference of the student's parent or guardian. This is a very bad idea: Our school divisions have made their pandemic teaching arrangements very carefully, based on input from local health officials and communities. They should not now be forced to change their approach by an unnecessary and ill-advised state mandate. Let your Senator know that you want them to strongly OPPOSE SB 1303! Dr. James J. Fedderman VEA President |
SB1303 has an emergency clause to make it effective on passage (so spring 2021). It's Chap Petersen's amemendment that is for fall. Given that most districts in VA are hybrid and the ones that aren't are close to returning or at least have viable return plans, I don't think asking for some sort of hybrid this spring is too big an ask. |
I wish we could vote |
Above that on twitter is a link to a news article about the head of the VEA catching COVID (which sounded like it was very rough, and I'm sorry to hear it) FROM A FAMILY GATHERING http://richmondfreepress.com/news/2021/jan/28/vea-president-learns-hard-lesson-about-covid-19/ Meanwhile we hear so much preaching from leaders and here on DCUM about not meeting in groups. I really am sorry that that gentleman Dr. James J. Fedderman contracted COVID, but the hypocrisy is stunning, and VEA is advertising it. |
I did too! Rewrote the whole letter. Now they think they're reaching their letter writing goal but if more people do that it'll be the opposite of what they're asking people to do. Buah ha ha! ![]() |
I don't either, but I do think there will be less support from some parents who are freaked out by even the idea of any children (not theirs, mind you) being in a school building. Ugh. |
You can write your senator and tell them you will be voting against their reelection if they do not support this bill. I certainly plan to see which way mine voted and I will absolutely vote that person out of office if they vote against it. |
Just so everyone knows, I'm a teacher and I don't agree with the union, and I don't think most of us do. As soon as I get my full vaccine, I'm good to go. I agree that kids are struggling. They need to be in school. I'm glad parents are uniting. I think this is the only way because the unions are too powerful. |
Go away |
All the people using children as shields are a nightmare.
