Losing weight but starving

Anonymous
OP, you lost 15 pounds since late December and wonder why you are hungry? Its because it is only mid-January.

Clearly you don't to eat only 800 calories to lose weight. You need 800 calories in order to lose almost a pound per day. That is not the only way to do it.

+1. No, you should not walk around hungry all the time! Your body is telling you that you need food. 800 calories is an eating disorder, not a diet.

+2. I need to stop reading this board because it upsets me so much. Thinness is not worth this level (or frankly any level) of self abuse.

you get less hungry over time. Broth helps me, something salty with flavor but not a lot of calories, and electrolyte drinks also

It’s been very pro-Ana since splitting from the Health forum. So much misinformation on it, it’s no wonder these people can’t lose weight.

I’m surprised some of these threads aren’t deleted. There are people providing tips common among people with eating disorders and there are young people that read these things. Telling a person who’s hungry because they’re eating 800 calories a day to just drink broth and tea and they won’t be hungry? Uhhhh no, they’ll still be hungry because they need more food.

Instead of pasta buy some weird palm hearts pasta. Also shirataki pasta. No sugar added ketchup and sauces.
Someone posted a whole head of cabbage recipe with chicken on top in an iron skillet in the oven. I made it without chicken, delish!
An enormous bowl of broccoli and cauliflower.
make a plain cabbage salad when hungry.
Shred cabbage, add salt and vinegar, and eat an enormous portion of it.

Wow this sounds miserable.

And full of farts

Yeah, that is a LOT of weight to lose in such a short time if you are very short. This coupled with your low intake can create an electrolyte imbalance

This is ridiculous. I’m 5’9 and have a resting bmr is 1230. Some people just have a slow metabolism. 800 cals doesn’t seem to me to be too low for someone short.

It is always preferable to add activity than to cut calories to a ridiculous level. And given the weight loss reported by the OP, she would be clearly losing at more calories too. Unless she is doing a protein sparing fast eating just 800 calories is a very dumb way to approach fat loss regardless of how short you are.

Unless you have some kind of metabolic disorder, or are very old, I doubt your resting BMR is 1230. I am 5'2 and 45 and mine is1390. Now, if you do have some kind of disorder, you don't really have anything to contribute here.

At any rate, I usually burn closer to 2300 calories a day with working out. But on a day where I am sedentary, just sitting at my desk and didn't get a chance to walk or work out, I'm still at around 1,500. Which means there's no reason to cut down to 8 even with the low resting BMR

Take a couple brisk 15-20 minute walks a day -- will get you an extra 200 calories or so. That being said, 800 calories is too low.

I wouldn’t say I have a metabolic disorder. But, I’ve been a yoyo dieter my entire life, have gained and lost 100 pounds at one point and everywhere in between. I’ve had it tested at two places and unfortunately that is what it is.

This would make me incredibly sick. And it's very disordered.

How many hours of sleep do you get? Sleep more and you won’t be as hungry.

Closer to 75 calories for most women.
