Well our ES’s GS score will plummet even more! |
Ugh. Are they trying to make kids hate school? They finally get to go back and then they spend weeks on SOL test prep? Omg. |
No, but if it was a test like a reading level test given by the teacher, that’s a test that would benefit him. There’s no individual benefit to the SOLs. |
Sure it does. This year has demonstrated that no one at FCPS cares about the quality of kids education, and they relied on parents to teach all year. Why should parents and kids bother attending school for SOLs when the only benefit is to the school system? My child will not be participating. |
It’s a hard no for me, dawg. |
This prep occurs every year. I actually think it'll be less this year. Teachers don't really care about the results, no one is putting any weight in them this year - the results won't really matter. (ES Teacher) |
Are HS SOLs happening too? |
Ha!! Funniest thing I’ve seen all day. |
I'm with you. 😄 |
YES, thus far. VDOE has only waived a few ES and MS Sols. Math and English are still on as well as all required HS for graduation. |
Have they learned the minimum ~ how would you know?
Be glad there are safeguards in place so students are required to be taught a minimum (at least!). And teachers have to answer for it. Ideally at least some pressure is there on the teachers that wouldn't be there otherwise |
I don’t think most reply care. Take them or don’t. ES Teacher |
*really |
I’ve pushed 9th grader DC’s SOL to spring. |
The elementary schools spend a great deal of time on SOL testing. They can only use computers with the right software, and have to practice with the software, so there goes several hours right there. The library is out of commission for a couple of weeks in order to use it for testing. The special ed kids need small groups, so IAs and special ed teachers are pulled for that for weeks, and are not able to meet with kids for instruction. They have to do tons of review and test taking skills. All of the time would be much better spent teaching madly to the finish if they can get in-person. When the tests are done, the kids think they are done, even if several weeks remain. Just keep teaching. Everyone knows kids lost ground. |
