I just filled my own stocking

I’m headed to Target tomorrow to pick up some of my favorite candies for my stocking. I also bought myself a cake decorating set.

I bought myself face cloths, makeup, color street type nails, peppermint candy, and sparkly hair ties.

In my state your choices are pretty much chihuahuas, German shepherds, cattle dogs or bully breeds. Nothing wrong with any of those if you have the lifestyle and space for them, but I don't. So--that leaves purebreds since the dogs that would be a good fit for the average apartment dweller get snapped up the same day they become available. Maybe the universe doesn't want me to have a dog, or maybe I'm supposed to wait a while longer, but that's what I'm putting my personal Xmas funds toward.
How much do they cost?

Can you adopt
I was asking how much they cost because the pp said they have to save up. If they have to save up to buy a dog how will they afford it when they have to feed it and take it to the vet?

I fill my own stocking too, and everyone else's. Although I this year my brother sent me a little bag labeled "Mom's stocking, put in stocking on Christmas Eve." DH is like "what's a stocking?" He needs better training. I'll start working on it for next year.

You should definitely get yourself some stuff. I realized once my daughter was old enough to notice that I didn't want her to think moms don't get gifts. And even if you are single and don't have kids, get yourself something!

Doesn’t buying stuff for your own stocking kind of send the wrong message too though?

My mind went somewhere else entirely.

I always make sure to fill my moms stocking. My kids still believe in Santa but they know Santa only brings gifts for kids so they buy me gifts for my stocking.

This is so adorable. (Mom of boys here does not hope for this.)

What has happened when you ask your spouse about this?

I do most of the stocking work in our house. Everyone gets little stuff like lip balm, altoids, chocolates, funny socks. Kids get toys. Santa brings me dark chocolate pretzels and fancy hand cream. I put one of my husband's small gifts in his, and he does the same for me.

In case anyone hasn’t seen the SNL skit OP referenced and is curious... I can’t quickly find just the video, but you can see it here: https://www.scarymommy.com/snl-moms-robe-gift/

If you moan and are glum it does. If you are buying things you want to treat yourself and are happy when you get them, it does not. Why can’t you treat yourself too?

I filled mine up with a decent husband who, even if he sometimes needs to be prompted, is ultimately involved and gets it.

My friends wonder why I married a quiet, nerdy type. Them they complain about their thoughtless, clueless, uninvolved husbands...who aren't even hot anymore after 10 years or so, with dad bids and thinning hair.
