Omni Homestead vs. Omni Bedford Springs vs. Nemacolin vs. Greenbrier vs. ???

We love going to the Homestead in the winter with our daughter. The pool is open and very warm. Love swimming in the winter when the water is comfortable, and seeing the steam on top. The ice skating rink next to the pool is really fun too, often we have it to ourselves. They rent skates as well. So we usually have spent most of our time going between the pool and the ice skating. They're opening the hot springs again this December I recently read. We haven't gone since they closed, as that's always been our favorite part. As I recall, they also have tubing, and skiing, and a sleigh ride with s'mores. We usually like to splurge on their large buffet breakfasts at least once per visit, but for dinners usually eat at their more casual places. We like the casual place that's in a separate building, really close to the back of the resort -- on the golf course, I think.

Have only been to the Greenbrier once, and I don't think they have the outdoor pool and skating in the winter time like the Homestead does. It was nice, but we felt more comfortable at the Homestead.

How did you land on a 2 year old thread?

Also they all kind of suck. You are never going to get the full package in places like that. They just don't have the staff or consistency of staff to pull off a true luxury experience.

Greenbrier had outdoor skating when we stayed there in the winter

I agree. My least favorite. Homestead is undergoing a massive renovation and I think some of the things mentioned in prior posts will be addressed. I like it but it was getting tatty. In a year or so I think it will be great.

Pp here. I would NOT go to homestead for about a year. It is completely covered with construction efforts.

I've stayed at all of them except for Homestead. The Greenbrier's food was inedible, and I mean every single meal was just bad. Nemacolin's food was actually pretty bad too. Everything I've ever eaten at Bedford Springs was excellent and there a few small restaurants in Bedford that are good as well. The golf is very good at all of them, Bedford only has one course but its beautiful and reasonable-ish. Both of Nemacolins courses are very nice and the middle of the three for price. Greenbrier charges Pebble Beach prices and although nice, its not even kind of worth it. If you just want to be bougie, don't care about golf or activities, and you have a bottomless well of funds then go to The Inn at Little Washington, Michelin 3-star restaurant and the area its in is a quiet as humanly possible. Otherwise, I would say Bedford Springs really is my favorite, great mix of quality, activities, nice spa, nice golf. Nemacolin is tacky, Greenbrier is getting a little run down.

They are all mediocre at best.

I love the relaxed elegance at Bedford Springs.

All of these hotels are so far from the Ritz that I wonder if your post is a troll.

I certainly wouldn't outright trash any of these places or say they're mediocre, I think its all about perspective. Not to get too in the weeds but my journey through life has taken me from blue-collar line cook where a weekend stay at the Hampton Inn was an exciting weekend getaway to R&D Chef of a 7 Billion Dollar a year company where I fly on Private jets and stay at 5 Star hotels. I have the unique ability to appreciate luxury not having grown up with it but working in the world of hospitality I know what is and isn't proper execution. With all that nonsense out of the way I do believe for cost to quality ratio, of all of the choices, Bedford Springs just seems to do it best. Just remember some people could have a fairy tale weekend at Bedford Springs, others with the family-from-Succession type lifestyles and expectations should look into The Inn at Little Washington, or just go to Switzerland.

We like the Omni Bedford Springs but it is definitely not at the level of a Ritz or Four Seasons (nor do I think they claim to be). The Greenbrier is more upscale than the Homestead but we actually prefer the Homestead. Never been to either in the winter so I have no idea what there is to do at either in colder months.

Agree about Nemacolin. Went there twice when our kids were under 4 and the townhouse set up was perfect while the ILs stayed in the lodge. But it does feel tacky and gaudy. Would not go there now with DH, even with the now nearly 20 y.o. kids.

This.

None of these places are resort towns, your staffing choices are slim. And it always shows in the service. Yes you will get one or two people who genuinely get it and care. But for there are nuances to high end hospitality that can’t be taught.

Doesn’t exist anymore .

Been to all of them and hated him. Nemocolin slightly better than all I suppose. For couples. I suppose all are considered high end - I prefer W Coast resorts however. There's something about being around the National Parks out West that makes it so much more interesting than a pool, something to eat and a spa. I didn't feel any of the resorts around here are really worth the $$. I'd rather go to an island honestly for the same money and stay somewhere cheaper but get to indulge in beautiful scenery/be on a beach or pool or something And I am also 5 star hotels kinda girl. Short of finding one however, I'd settle for a cute and clean 3 star place though. For me, it's always about value.

As a black person, I appreciate the heads up. The Homestead has been on my list, but no thanks!
