Numbers won’t be decreasing anytime soon.

I don't think I, my spouse, or my husband are ready to face giving up childcare for months (again) while paying to keep the slot (again) and explaining to our bosses that no, it didn't close, we just choose not to use it. So again, we will take it week by week.

I only have one spouse. Whoops.

2020 is hard enough without adding extra spouses to the mix

Based on just talking to friends, it doesn't feel like a lot of the families are following the request not to visit or have people over for the holiday or keep your child home for 2 weeks after. We are fortunate enough that we are able to/ thinking about keeping DC home the week after Thanksgiving (though our 4 year old will likely be watching TV while we work) and it seems like at least one other family is. Are others thinking about this? We are also thinking the same for Christmas-- but not sure if that would be the week of the 28th or the week of 1/4 too or waiting to if Thanksgiving has any issues. Curious what others are doing.

Out of necessity so we can do our jobs, we sent our just turned 5 year old kid back yesterday. DH works at a hospital and I telework but in a job I can't keep kid home more than 1 day without losing my sanity, as he will ask to play with him 10+ times a day and I really can't take more than a 15 min break every few hours.

Can’t he watch some movies for a couple weeks? It’s about to get really bad when the surge hits. Your daycare will probably shut down anyway.

I disagree with pp. No one knows if daycare will shut down and I believe they will stay open. Time will tell!

Yeah, it seems like this has been the prediction for months, that there would be a lot of shutdowns. At our center, one class was sent home for a suspected case, which turned out to be negative. That's it since July. We've been pretty fortunate thus far. We don't know all the families by any means, but of those we talk to, everyone seems pretty responsible. No one wants to lose childcare again!

I’m minimizing my time off over the holidays because I fully expect a January quarantine due to selfish families not taking precautions.

NP with a child the same age, and no he can’t just watch movies for a few weeks. I’m not making irrational parenting decisions based off fear of a potential surge. We will cross that bridge when we get there if they shut down childcare. But for now my DH is back in the office and I am at a client side serval days a week. So our children will continue to go to daycare. FWIW our daycare didn’t shut down (open for essential workers) and we never had an issue. So we continue to go and do the best we can.
