Huge shift in Iready scores?

Unfortunately, my DD's teacher takes iReady scores as the gospel, and treats my 2nd grader like a baby.

I'm a teacher and I have kids score years ahead of their grade level on iReady. It doesn't matter how many times I tell parents that students need to take tests on their own. They still help them. We do these tests online during class and I see parents sitting next to them telling them answers. The district just wants data. It doesn't matter if it is valid.

We have witnessed this too.

Not in IReady, but in several online classes, we have personally seen and/or heard parents/siblings giving kids answers during tests.

Just because your kid isn’t cheating, don’t assume others are not.

Another common one: kids with an IPad/IPhone next to their computer, googling hard questions, or using calculators when not allowed.

For some parents, perfect scores are everything- even if the kid cheats.

Not me.

Seriously, DO CHEATING PARENTS not have jobs?????????? Who has the time to be helping kids cheat on iready?

In honor of 2020, they should rename the test I(not)ready.

Seriously though, I’m already thinking of opting my kid out if SOLs this year. What’s the point?

Sad to think about the overall cumulative learning loss since March.

The same parents who say things like “we don’t find morning meeting useful” and somehow know every detail of what the teachers and other kids do and say all day long.

lol. I'm treating this has a regular FCPS school year and have zero clue what my 4th grader is doing all day long, though i do help her check her email and google classroom on the weekend. That said, if Monday goes 100% asynchronous (huge doubts 4th grader will see the inside of a FCPS building this year), I'd be happy if the drop Monday morning meeting, so that my kid can sleep til whenever it suits her. As for the iReady .. test placed her in beginning of 4th grade of LA, but teacher assessment placed at the end of 4th grade, so luckily teacher has set higher goals for this year. Math was middle 4th grade so probably pretty accurate.

I was surprised and looked at the 2020-2021 grading scale issued in May of this year -- by that guide his math score should have actually been in 99th percentile, it was listed as 85th. Does this reflect them having to redo the grading scale due to unexpected jump in scores this fall (which I suspect has a lot to do with kids taking test at home with someone providing assistance behind them?)

Any teachers able to comment on this?

It doesn't matter.

Are you looking at the correct grade cohort? You can't compare last years raw or scaled score to this years.

Can you please post this? I was looking for it for it and unable to find it. Thank you!

Same, where are you pulling the iReady scores from? We recently received it from our teacher but no way of understanding what it means.

I’m happy because my kids did well on iready despite no tutors or spending extra money of any kind. We did good old fashioned workbooks and a ton of reading all summer long. I’m incredibly proud of my kids! Both kid scored ahead grade level in reading and math!

I can find percentiles used by other districts, but FCPS did not put out percentiles. OP what district are you in?

I didn't coach my kids on iReady at all, and they did fine. They usually do fine.
