Ok not ever but please don't give her a complex or issues. If you want her to get more physical activity in, take her for hikes. Find out what she likes doing like playing soccer or dance. |
What does your DD's pediatrician say? If the weight is in line with the rest of your DD's growth curve and history, then I think you're good. But trust your pediatrician - not a bunch of randoms like us!

LOL, thank you for clarifying. I was having a heart attack at the responses that it was okay to be 100 pounds when you are 5' 10" tall. I was ready to swoop over to your house, throw your daughter in the car and get her to the hospital asap for an eating disorder eval. One of my sorority sisters died of anorexia. It was heartbreaking so I tend to be hypersensitive to it. I agree with the other posters that she sounds fine. Here is the CDC chart. |
DP. I think completely avoiding the topic of weight is just as dangerous as being completely fixated on it. There has to be a happy middle ground. It is important for kids to know that we have ranges of weight that are just right, too much and too little. They need to know about nutrition and exercise, and that those two things together can impact muscle mass, weight and general health. Ignoring the topic of weight is ignoring something important. |
That's how I read it at first and I was like WTF?!?!?! |
That's for an adult. A child's body (bones, organs, etc.) weighs less than an adult so an appropriate weight for a 5' woman is not the same as a 5' 10 year old. Still, I think it is a healthy weight for a 10 year old, though on the higher side of healthy. Would not give it a second thought if she is showing signs of puberty. |
Again, children weigh less than women. A 95 pound 5'7" woman would be dangerously underweight. For a 12 year old, this is technically a healthy weight, albeit just barely. |
| Old thread, guys |
| Ask her pediatrician. Too many factors to debate here. |

That sounds healthy to me.
My DD is 12 and 4’11” 75lbs. She is a twig (and obviously hasn’t yet started puberty) but is not medically underweight and is very healthy and active. Your DD sounds just fine to me. IMO there is a wide range for tween girls all around, as puberty starts (or doesn’t). If the ped is happy with her weight you should be too. |

DP. For a child, 5'10" and 100 lbs, if they are on their growth curve, isn't alarming. It's technically underweight but some kids are. I'd only worry if they lost weight or, after an illness, didn't regain. |
