If you want a reality check to see what is ability level actually is, go to Bethesda and see which team he is placed on and how he does.

If Bethesda is holding their cattle call tryouts take your kid and find out which team he is placed on. You don't have to take a spot, but, you will have a sense of his athleticism compared to other kids who are presumably into soccer. Lots of kids are perfectly happy on Bethesda's 2nd and 3rd teams, but if your only goal is to move to a higher team, you are likely to be disappointed. My kids are older now, but the biggest thing you need to learn about all club sports is that the director will always make a big show about "developing players". The reality is that the focus is always on the very small percentage of best players. Everybody else is just paying the bills.

very accurate or those that "donate" to the club to "support" the unexpected expenses.

Look back at many kids at age 8 who where the good player on a team, how many are doing different sports, playing multiple sports etc.

a kid trains kids in our area, he plays high school most of his kids he trains are all from high pressure clubs who didn't let the kids have fun , call it babysitting with a ball but they are all having fun

kids need to have fun at that age nothing too serious

Or maybe he'll continue to love soccer and come to appreciate that he started playing with a good club at a younger age. I'm not sure where you are getting "such intense training" from as parents are just recommending good clubs. Have fun watching your kid sit in the dugout...I mean play baseball..

you have probably seen my kids play their sports on the big ten network and when they were that age they played 3 sports as well as music lessons.

My kids play travel soccer, one at a much higher level than the other (maybe you'll see one or both some day on the BIG Network...doubt it but maybe) and both play basketball, flag football, and swim. We may even add in some running next year. But I don't know why you had to go off the deep end because a parent was suggesting to join Bethesda or Potomac travel teams. And by the way....plenty of kids do just fine playing one sport. Mine play many but I don't rip people if their kids don't play multiple sports.

From the misspelled title of this, I thought it would involve coaches being beaten by crazy parent.

Um, if one is at a "much higher level than the other," the chances of seeing
both
of them on the BIG Network seem slim.

I wrote that and I totally agree with you. I really don't believe that. : )
At age 9 i would get into an academy system. No your not a crazy parent for this. Its best to get in as a younger player. While in the system I would find a good futsal program that trains 1 day a week all year. On the weekends with no soccer or breaks during the year find pick up soccer matches. They have several sites on twitter, Instagram and other social sites that announce these games. This is the best environment for a child. Above all else find time to unwind for your child and you. Burnout is real and overuse injuries are prevalent.
Can anyone give a link for pickup games? I usually use Ig. Thanks.

Xeneizes MD Soccer is a great small club 4 years in and growing FAST in the Area. You should reach out to them and get on their Premier Teams starting at very young: U5!!!

But your kid is not good enough to play with the best of the best.

Anonymous wrote:Hey all! We have a VERY enthusiastic soccer player will be U9 in the spring and needs a team with great coaches and likeminded kids. Where am I taking him? Bethesda Soccer, Potomac Soccer and MD Fusion have ALL been recommended to us. Our kid eats sleeps breathes it and has always played on fun informal Rec teams at MSI and SAM soccer with parent volunteer coaches and lots of touches on ball and game time. What’s the absolute best scenario for him? Bethesda? MD fusion? another team? We are in Potomac near Copenhaver so anywhere in this Potomac to Germantown corridor. Please help us out!!

Anyone placing their enthusiastic U9 player in travel soccer will have a burnt out soccer player by the time they get to U14. Ask the current upper level HS kids in club what they were doing at that age. It's not travel.

We have had a lot of success with Potomac.

Way oversimplified. Depends on the kid. If you have a kid who loves soccer, wants to play multiple days a week, and is good, why not let them? You really think for the kids that have the desire and skill, it is best for them to play local rec, barely practice, and score 15 goals a game?

The problem is when you push kids past a point, and that point will be different for every kid, and may take some trial and error.

My two cents.

Hello, I am a coach in the area, run an S&C/fitness business, former player and actually coach the high school your son will probably go to if he is in public school. Just to give you some background about who is answering this. I would highly recommend your son to go to Laurel Lions. He will develop way better as a soccer player there. The technical work from the Coach the runs the club is the best around the area. He actually was my former coach. If you want to chat just email me a jsisman10 @ gmail com. I would be happy to talk. I want to make sure your child is in the best position to grow. It not about the name on the shirt it's about the environment that he is in.

I'd steer clear of Xeneizes. Based on what I've seen of them in tournaments, they place their teams in the worst divisions and play the 3rd and 4th ranked teams of the bigger clubs. It looks great to parents when they win, but not the kind of "success" you should be looking for at this point.
