Lmao. Terrible example. Dems and Americans are stupid.

Sweden, for years, attempted many of the things Democrats want to now do and failed miserably. For years Sweden was dogged by high inflation, anemic economic growth, and high unemployment. It wasn't until the 90s when moderates in Sweden did away with the far left's politics and reduced taxes, reduced regulation, and embraced much more pro-capitalist reforms that Sweden took off. Really, go read up on Sweden's 90s history. Sweden actually has very pro-capitalist policies that's make liberals cringe. Lol. Sweden drastically reduce things like inheritance and gift taxes to ZERO, which is completely opposite of what current dems want to do. Dems are itching to tax the crap out of things like inheritance because some sort of stupid idea that it'll produce some sort of social justice.

Not even some in HoCo would send their kid to "every single HS in HoCo". They had their own boundary fight.

This.

I'm not a progressive, but I will say, that if I didn't have to worry about medical costs (esp. as DH and I are getting older) and ever rising college costs (kids nearing college age), I'd be ok with higher taxes. More older people who generally have higher paying jobs would be able to retire earlier, thus allowing younger people to get higher paying jobs.

I think the issue with many Americans is that they are used to lower taxes, and so even if you raise it by 1%, people go nuts.

I do think MoCo is too much of a nanny state, but I think OP is ridiculous to compare it to Cuba. You clearly have no clue what it's really like to live in a communist country. My father escaped communists in his home country.

He married two women from former communist countries; he is in love with Putin who wants Russia to go back to being the USSR.

OK then let me calm down and try again. This is why MoCo is failing:

- Council supports crony capitalism for developer donors
- Executive doesn’t appear to support private sector at all
- Council supports meaningless social justice initiatives
- Executive has bombastic history of leftist rhetoric and associations
- Executive favors insider supporters over regular constituents
- Like other leftist regimes, when you tax and “social justice” your tax base to oblivion, they leave.

Got it?

Is this like the anarchy in Portland, or New York City emptying out? And then you go to Portland and almost all of the streets are as orderly as ever, or you go to New York City and there are still millions of people living there?

Montgomery County isn't paradise on earth, to be sure, but the only people who believe Montgomery County is failing are people who wish it were still 1975 in Montgomery County. Or maybe 1955.

1975 was pretty great.

I know right? The original owners of my house paid $50k for it in 1975.

You clearly did not attend a public school in MOCO in 1975.

Of course we did.

Some of the original suggestions were pretty uch the exact equivalent of a Churchill student being bussed to Blair. LOL at that.

This.

Some of what OP said is right, but it is so outlandish, it's hard to take the post seriously.

That said- I moved to Hoco 6 years ago. Enough was enough.

Moco is bad, but I don't think Hoco is any better than Moco. You all have even higher taxes than Moco.

True but we still have good schools, and we (narrowly) defeated being a sanctuary county.

The top schools in the state are in MoCo

Umm no, that would be Fairfax County

Y'all haven't had top schools in 20 years

Just curious -- in those amazing Fairfax County schools, do they teach you what state Fairfax County is in?
