Mr Rogers is a TV show made for kids. While it has had its notable moments, it is a show that mostly avoids serious adult topics of the times. Notice I said mostly. And that's exactly how the Biden townhall was, an artificially toned down show made for children, or for those with the mental capacity of children.

I love Mr Rogers - I watched his shows while learning English as a teenager.

Did you watch Biden’s town hall? I have no idea why you would describe it as “an artificially toned down show made for children.”

It wasn’t R-rated, and there wasn’t gleeful talk about assaulting women. But it was s straightforward discussion of policy, appropriate for the event.

Can't believe I have to spell this out. Mr Rogers episodes are highly produced, with predefined topics and little if any challenges between the host and guest. There are no disagreements, no confrontation with opinions from different and competing points of view. This is exactly what the Biden townhall was. As such it is produced for people who are not engaged to expand their understanding, but simply to have their existing bias confirmed.

Laugh. You realize this was a town hall with no opposing side because your guy refused to agree to the rules for an actual debate, right?

Yes I realize that. So we are in agreement that this was a made-for-children townhall.

What was "artificially" toned down? Was Mr. Rogers supposed b*tch slapping Mr. McFeely in real life?

Also I don't believe for a second that you watched Mr. Rogers as a teenager to learn English, but nice virtue signal to appeal to the "libs loving immigrants" stereotype.

Caused by the childish tantrum from Trump.

OP - do you understand that if you have to explain your soundbite to the masses and debate what you really meant against how they have chosen to interpret it you have lost your audience?

We embrace Mr. Rogers, sorry (not sorry) the line didn't work for you.

I’ve already voted, but if I hadn’t yet voted and was in the fence, the Mr. Rogers reference would have confirmed my vote - for Biden. I have the most comforting and warm childhood memories of Mr. Rogers and how he talked about hard topics and confusing or scary subjects. I would vote for Mr. Rogers over Trump in a heartbeat!

PP here, apologies, this wasn't directed to OP, it was directed those trying to explain the comment.

What matters is how the people perceive it. Far, far, far more people associate Mr Rogers with nurture and love than they do with childishness or immaturity.

Ms Schlapp made a mistake. It's a telling one.

You got it. I have no problem having my pre-existing biases against white supremacy and Q Anon confirmed.

Look PP - I don't know if you can't observe and detect a decent policy discussion in action or you are sorely unaware of how policy is formed and debated, but you have no idea what a Presidential candidate should look like. Do you even watch Biden's townhall?

I think some people are so accustomed to a reality-TV president that they do not know or remember what a real leader should sound like and how an informed, knowledgeable, policy-wonk type candidate sounds like.

A truly worrisome development among our citizenry over the last 3-4 years of the Trump show.

We need to ignore these bozos and vote. Most people are tired of the fool in the White House who does nothing except yell and create chaos and infect people. Vote. Get out the vote. And ignore the idiots.

+1. Vote! And the we can go about the business of completely ignoring Trump until his trail starts and not thinking about POTUS for a full 24 hours at a time.

It probably depends on your children’s interest in tax credits for green energy, fracking policy and Court packing. Mine is a HS junior debater who wants to study foreign policy in college. So, it was a great townhall for that particular child. I doubt the 3-5 year old set or mentally challenged Trumpkins could follow what was happening.

That's a very well crafted spin. But her comment was not about Biden's content.

Typical trumpers mistake kindness for immaturity.

Lol!!

You did not understand what he was doing. He absolutely addressed adult topics. Since you were learning English back then, you didn’t get it. I mean...that is exactly what he did with his show. Lol!!!

No.

You completely misunderstand the show. Hilarious. And a bit scary.

Trump supporters don't understand what adult conversation really looks like. If someone isn't yelling, they get bored or nervous.

Trump supporters are emotionally stunted 14-year-old boys. They need to GO SIT DOWN.
