Your 18 yr old ivy plus kids will be the new breed of pipe smokers with “gravitas“ denouncing and spouting patriarchy and critical race theory nonsense |
Critical Race Theory speculates how wonderful this world would be if People of color instead of White people held the seats of power in this world, conveniently ignoring all the trouble spots in today's world where white people don't hold or have never held power. According to CRT most of the evil in the US stems from systemic racism. Based on this premise, advocates of this theory propose different solutions to problems |
CRT is the language of gaining access to privilege. https://twitter.com/thomaschattwill/status/1312397249280966658?s=21 |
Ah! Thanks! How does it deal with non-whites with privilege (e.g. Asians)? Are they part of the "ruling class" (or "ruling mass") in CRT or relegated to the grey zone that they normally find themselves in? |
Yale is an urban campus in the sense that you aren’t insulated/separated from the city, including gritty bits. My sibling went there and his friends all had their “favorite homeless people” who they felt good about supporting each day on their way to class. The city itself has some okay restaurants but it’s also Kind of bleak and the weather isn’t great. None of this is to say your kid might not love it, but it seems like people tend to want Stanford because they value a high QOL and Yale, for all its strengths, doesn’t offer that kind of quality of life. If you are on the east coast the obvious thing is to drive up and see it. |
"My sibling went there and his friends all had their “favorite homeless people” who they felt good about supporting each day on their way to class."
Gross. |
Yes, you are. |
Pretty weak response to a fair calling out. Pretty clear why it was the siblings who got in. |
DD went to Yale and had the time of her life! The residential college system makes for a smaller collegial environment within a larger university. |
According to CRT, Cis gender Asians can play one of two roles. They can be strong allies to Black and brown people oppressed by systemic racism by supporting them at every step against the cis white patriarchy or they can be privileged, racist douchebags. |
Silly. |
As usual Asians get the short end of the stick. Asians have not had any privilege but are told to give up the fruits of their hard work. |
Yes usually in favor of less qualified white athletes. |
I went to Yale 30 years ago and I loved it. Made friends I still have this day, way different people I would never have met otherwise.
The Yale name on my resume even now still assists in job stuff, makes people take me seriously. I wish I had better accomplishments so that OTHER THINGS would make them take me seriously but there you go. The Yale I know was a fine school and I suspect with their money and connections, that has not changed. I'd send my kids there in a heartbeat but I'm sure they would not get in. Kudos to you for having this Hobson's choice. (California weather is nice, though.) |
There was an article in the WSJ on this today The Wall Street Journal: The Truth About Critical Race Theory. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-truth-about-critical-race-theory-11601841968 |
