I’m in a post partum recovery room right now if anyone has questions!

Congrats, PP! Did you have a virtual doula? How were the nursing staff about helping with more doula-like things? (Getting you cold cloths, etc) Did anyone take pictures for you? How long did the covid test take to come back and what was delivery like before and after your results?

- what birthing "things" did you have access to? as in, yoga ball, squat bar, etc?
- did you get tested for COVID? did your partner?
- did you have to wear a mask the whole time?

giving birth in the next 1-2 weeks, thanks in advance for answering!

I did have a virtual doula, and i think it was pretty pointless. The prep we did before with her was kind of helpful, but during labor we only texted. I never knew when we should get her on FaceTime, and by the time labor really picked up I had the midwives and nurses there. So meh overall. The nurses were great, and so were the midwives. Really helpful with the peanut ball and positions for moving the baby down.

I was induced in urgent but not emergency circumstances, so I actually got my test the night before, then came in the next morning for the induction. I was told it takes about an hour though. During delivery no one was pushy about masks. We wore them pretty consistently on the first day, then less once labor took off. The anesthesiologists even said “your room, you don’t need to wear a mask” My husband didn’t wear his when I was pushing so he could be really close to me, and no one said anything. In post partum it’s back to masks on all the time, which is totally fine.

We asked a nurse to take photos after birth, which was really lovely.

Every room has a birth ball, and they have some peanut balls, but a nurse told us ahead of time that sometimes they run out, so we brought ours from home. That turned out to be a great call because I’m tall and my peanut ball is way bigger than the ones they have. They were really happy I brought my own. As I didn’t ask about a squat bar.

I got tested the night before, partner did not get tested.

Once labor got going, I didn’t wear a mask, but before that and after I did. Every time someone comes into the post partum room we throw our masks back on. In labor and delivery it seemed really lax as long as you’re in your room (and you don’t leave your room).

Good luck! I had a great experience in labor and delivery!

Yes! They didn’t have Gatorade in the vending machines by L&D, but the nurse said it would be fine. I had ginger ale and cranberry juice. Also had honey and jolly ranchers to take the edge off my hunger.

And partner can order food and go get it from the entrance, that’s totally fine. We’ve mostly been living off Panera, but might get delivery tonight.

I saw a previous posted noted partners can leave and come back once per day? Is that right? How do they monitor?

I don’t think they do. It seemed like the honor system. DH went to Panera multiple times, but could have left and come back and no one would know.

Any sense if they are moving patients faster out of postpartum now than pre-covid?

I know nitrous isn’t an option now. Can you request oxygen? Does anyone know?
