Go OP! One pivot I've made is the commitment to not forgoing special memories for school schedules. Before the pandemic, I was the type of parent that followed every school rule to a tee and never missed to travel abroad and visit family. But, if I could keep my kid learning and finish out the last semester of the school year when school stopped teaching my kid anything new, I suppose a few days of missed school will be a piece of cake. |
I wouldn't want that to be the teachers' first impressions of our family. I think your girls would be fine, but the teachers would definitely remember that you didn't take their work seriously. |
Where is this? I want to go too. |
I'm sure they wouldn't be the only one. I doubt half the teachers are going to take their work seriously. I'm sure the teachers will get over it if the kids are involved in subsequent weeks. And for that matter, with this age range I would think a lot of kids would be missing any live instruction that's going on. That's young enough that many kids will end up in daycares while parents work. |
This. And zero complaints/comments from your DDs either. Not fair to their peers. |
Definitely go! Seems like a no brainer, a fun camping experience with the family versus some bullshit zoom meetings. DL isn’t real school, if your teacher is a pain in the butt about it just log on for a few minutes from your phone for “attendance” purposes. Our neighbors headed for a late beach trip for a week the first week of school and had a great time and kids didn’t miss out on anything that they couldn’t pick up from watching a few prerecorded videos. |
In a normal year I would say no, you should have planned your dates better and a camping trip is not worth missing most of the first week of school. However, given the dearth of fun, Covid-safe activities this summer and the fact that it’s DL, I say, go for it! Don’t even worry about logging in - just have a blast. |
Agree, NBD. Can’t wait for the politics and krap in this city to be over, or muted. |
