Good luck with that. MPD won't respond to a pot complaint in my experience. I've tried. I see people smoking (pot and cigs) at the bus stops in Chinatown right in front of the police all the time; it's illegal to smoke at a bus stop but the law is not enforced. |
Is there any group working to repeal the law? Seems like it was a fail. |
|
Can you imagine the 'Karen' complaints if you were actually to call a police officer on a person smoking a joint in front of the library? That would be hugely entertaining.
That would result in a 50 page DCUM thread.

Well exactly! That doesnt mean its legal or considerate tho. |
We have all the problems of California without the weather
|
Because lot makes you stupid. |
Yes. The problem is that we try and create national policy here at the local level. We love being the first. My California friend told me the other day that DC spends more money per citizen than any state and I really thought they we making that up. I realize that it is a twisting of statistics because our population. Is so small but we crush this country in per capita spending. Yet we feel we need the right to smoke pot on the library benches in front of kids. |

Move.
|
Its funny. I quite like the efforts of people to keep our city livable for everyone. I don't always put in the same effort, but if someone is focused on sidewalks or old growth trees or public pot violations my first instinct is not to tell them "move". |
You’re right. Don’t run by the library anymore. Problem solved. |
So stop using the free and public library that I contribute to with my taxes? |
Be inclusive. |
NP Not so much. It's still ongoing, but you don't hear about it much, because the research showed it either didn't help, or made things worse.
It made for good optics for people who wanted to feel good about it. The facts and reality are that it did not change rates of drug use, unless it was in the wrong direction. |
Police should not be called because they don't have the resources to respond. The police chief said he didn't have enough police to break up the block party where the mass shooting was a couple weeks back. Hundreds of people. That is the reason. But these responses truly confound me. Is the smoke that offensive to everybody??? It's ouside air!I think we're all a little spoiled since cigarette smoking has been cracked down on in the last decade, but it's much less offensive than cigarette smoke. |
Curiously, DC's laws on cigarette smoking restrict people to 25' from the building. Smokers seem to have adjusted and respect this. Note that it does not cover anything but tobacco. Yes, it's already illegal to light up in public. Still, it seems reason they should try to obey the same restrictions as smokers. https://code.dccouncil.us/dc/council/code/sections/7-1703.04.htmlA |
