She's one of my least favorite actors for sure.

I feel like this would make me crazy with anyone else but I find her strangely charming. DD has a lisp and I wonder if this is what she’ll sound like.

Not if you get her speech therapy as Drew surprisingly did not have. I think her lisp was played up/capitalized as cute so no one helped her improve herself. Though part of Drew's issue is facial assymetry/muscle movement when talking- her mouth pulls to the side which makes her difficulty speaking/expressing cogent thoughts it more obvious.

I’m not surprised it was never corrected. Despite being rich and famous, the adults in her life pretty much neglected and failed her as a child. Her mom took her to parties and clubs and didn’t take her to school...she was probably never evaluated amd even if it was pointed out during her acting her parents would have neglected to take her. Her dad was an alcoholic who abandoned them. She was broke and on her own at 14.

Honestly she turned out decently given her family backstory.

I don’t know about not being smart. She co-founded a production company in 1995. But yes, she comes off as a ditz in interviews.

Lisping can sometimes be genetically impossible to correct.

I find her annoying at times but I do admire her in some ways. Her mother had primary custody of her and basically let her young child party like an adult. The fact that she didn’t die young is pretty amazing. She got into rehab and has had a successful career from child actress into adulthood.

I can only think of a few people who did this successfully like Ron Howard and Jason Bateman. They both were raised by better parents.
Jodie Foster too

She's not just an actor she is also a movie producer. Catch up!

Actually, much more than a movie producer and actor. She's written a best selling book, also owns a huge beauty company, is launching her own TV show, and there's more I think! Definitely a mogul.

that's being a producer - the beauty stuff is just putting her name on something other people made and the book was ghost written for her. These are not her true accomplishments, these are just frippery.

Billion dollar frippery.

I don’t agree tho. Plenty of celebs have tried to do this and failed. She has figured something out that most haven’t. It’s a mix of knowing and trusting how to put a team in place and being likeable enough to pull it off. She’s crazy successful I admire her.

One of my university professors was a ghost writer of a well-known series of novels for teen girls and talked a lot about the industry. I also currently know somebody who is a "professional ghost" (ie, ghost writes on contract); he has also published some novels on his own, but this isn't as lucrative as one would believe, so he ghosts as well. Famous airheads pay someone to write their books, people. Did you really believe that so many celebrities, most of whom have limited high school educations only, have actually written books?

I think it is hilarious that people here actually think this empty-headed woman wrote her own book.

People, celebrity "books" are ghost written. It is an entire industry.

Sorry but successful TV and film producers, are never empty headed. They are very business minded and as she has proven, often very likable. You are a sour-puss, to say the least...

Her mom kept her out of school at age 9 so they could go clubbing and to parties almost every single night. That's insane.

No, I'm a realist and I know a little about this industry.

Do you trully not believe her family connections helped her establish the teams she needed to do this?

Yeah, and they all had way better parents than Drew.

Sure they did.

But we wouldn't still be talking about Drew Barrymore 30+ years into her Hollywood career if she hadn't been smart about how she parlayed her initial advantages. Give the woman some credit.
