SAT or ACT Fall Probabilities

Well at least two students have Coronavirus from the ACT July test, so it's a huge risk to have it (let alone have it in a ballroom - no thanks!): https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/25/us/act-coronavirus-students-oklahoma-edmond-trnd/index.html

This is old news.

Oh, and for the person who said MOST top students had already taken it...according to the Chronicle of Higher Ed in late June: ""Widespread cancellations this spring and summer have prevented many [rising seniors] from taking standardized tests. Two-thirds had yet to take the SAT, and nearly three-quarters had yet to take the ACT."

So then the top 1/3 already took the SAT and top 1/4 took the ACT. Most top kids take the tests fall or winter of their junior year.

I don't think we know yet whether only the top kids took the tests last fall, or perhaps more importantly, what their scores look like right now.

Generally, students score higher the later they test. While some who tested last fall may be done, many others who tested last fall would not have reached their highest potential score at that time.

Thanks for proving my point.

That’s your assumption!

My family would take this risk. We do not have risk factors and do not come in contact with people who do. Happy to quarantine for two weeks after testing.

With this and surges in covid recently, August SAT is unlikely to happen.

I think it will happen in some places.

Um, if kid is "high performing" then they would have a test score by now. Unless you're not talkig about a rising senior. In which case, f off.

1400+ PSAT kid. no prepping. We don't have an SAT score yet. Rising senior.

Same (1400+). DC also took a mock ACT and got 34. We figured waiting till spring of junior year to take both the SAT and ACT would be fine. We were wrong, sadly.

ACT is an utter debacle right now - tried to launch a new registration system which crashed under all the pent-up demand and now the site has been down for 2 days and counting

Collateral damage is that kids who were able to take mid-July ACT are now unable to access the scores that were supposed to post yesterday because the site is still down

Time for colleges to go test-blind this fall and end this charade

That’s not fair to kids who got good scores pre-covid.

I see your point. But this also means the "test optional" is NOT really "optional" because "kids who got good scores pre-covid" will be preferred by those "test optional" colleges over kids who have no scores to submit. Then everyone will try to get a test score because no one wants to be at a disadvantage, so no one has the option but to take a test.
