Not impressed with CT beaches

It has charm and can be a nice place to spend a day but isn’t really a ‘beach’ destination the way the Cape is. RI/MA ocean beaches are definitely rockier/weedier/colder than OBX but have a good vibe.

+1. I grew up on the beach in Fairfield County. It's a nice beach for being commuting distance from NYC, but it's not a beach destination and is nothing compared to Cape Cod. My friends who still live there and have money still take real beach vacations on Nantucket. That said, having a local beach (and lovely town pool clubs with no wait lists) does make those towns much more pleasant to live in than Bethesda!!!

Totally agree. Would love to be back at Compo right now.

Swings at Jennings Beach...my childhood.

Cali beaches are beautiful but not for swimming. Last time summer at the ocean in so cal the seaweed was so thick you lhad to struggle to enter the water.
You do realize that California is more than just LA right?

Yes - this problem was santa Barbara. Been to many beautiful west coast beaches. I just prefer to swim in the Atlantic. Water temp is great and you can swim and surf or boogie board for hours. All good.

The ct beaches get nicer and more ocean-like as you head east, and the sound widens...

Is this what MA beaches are like too? I'm not sure why everyone on this board falls all over themselves to compliment northern beaches over southern, which tend to have the white sand and clear water.

You are so annoying. Get a free house and complain and moan about how they aren't up to your standards. You can't compare Connecticut beaches with NC beaches or Delaware beaches or New Jersey beaches. I'm sure someone from Hawaii wouldn't be impressed with your "beaches"
either.

Just enjoy your free vacation!

No kidding. That was my first thought. If OP is too stupid to appreciate a free beach house, I would be glad to enjoy it for her!

Not all Northeast beaches are rocky , or whatever -don't be so ignorant. Your trolling is offensive and deliberately insulting. Congratulations. You have confirmed the southerner stereotype.

OP, what people like about the Northeast, in general, is that each beach (and city, for that matter) is DIFFERENT. If you like the same OBX NC beaches over and over, that is your prerogative. But don't come here and complain about what someone was good enough to GIVE you. You are insufferable.

That, and some people don't understand why people in their right mind would go south during summer. It is not that difficult to understand - you are just difficult, OP.

Don't give these people facts, PP. Just don't bother.

I live in Mystic. We’re not known for our beaches. The water is pretty to look at and it’s nice to hike along the rocky shore but for actual beach time, we all go to RI & the cape. Give Watch Hill a try, you can find soft sand and it’s gorgeous. East beach is the one I prefer in WH.

I grew up in CT and agree with all of this. Watch Hill was our go-to for a day trip, and Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod for a longer trip/bigger splurge.

My grandparents lived in Weston, and I spent so many happy childhood days at Compo.

I know. Enough with the “beaches are different” line. OTOH, I think OP was just trolling for CCCLs responses so I commend CCCL for only jumping in once.

To YOU. I grew up going "down the shore" If you don't like it than please stay away. I have many fond memories of spending time there!

Please don't convince people to come to NJ. I'm enjoying LBI far too much.

Wow are you clueless. CT has beaches sure but Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard are a completely different story and are the true summer destinations. CT beaches are for people who live in Fairfield county to go on a day trip. That's like comparing some simple city park to Shenandoah.
