Normal people, how did you work out so as to strengthen your back?

Pilates. Plus make sure to stretch hip flexors.

Deadlifts are so good for your back but they are so easy to screw up. I would only do them with a reputable trainer who works with middle aged or older people, so is sensitive to our needs. My trainer meets me outside in the park and brings his own dumbbells to do deadlifts. I haven't had back pain in 3 years.

This.
Try the Down Dog App. It gets all your body parts. I love it.

Most important thing is to start slow and focus on doing the exercises correctly. Use a mirror to check your form. I had back issues for years and it turns out my form was all wrong.

I do deadlifts in the nude to make sure it’s hitting the proper parts
