Do you even live here? Or are you writing a thesis paper from far away? The like/dislike of Mayor Bowser crosses racial lines. Some Black people strongly dislike her. Check out the local BLM group. And plenty of white people dislike white politicians. Look at how white moderates treat Councilmember Nadeau (she's very progressive and white since you probably don't know that). Good luck with your thesis, but try doing some more research first. |
They do constituent service work like any lawmaker anywhere, but they're hardly in charge of everything that goes on in their ward (and the constituent service funds, which are basically slush funds, are tiny compared to government spending in general — about $1 million, total, citywide, from 2012 to 2018). Most services you get from the city government are executive functions. You think Brandon Todd's office has been out there collecting your trash now that he's the Ward 4 councilmember instead of Bowser? |
You are hilarious. How is the weather in North Kensington? Burke? |
| DC received COVID stimulus funds on par with Puerto Rico. Not sure if Bowser and/or Norton are responsible for that but who does the lobbying for DC on such issues? |
"Even her own people dislike her, like BLM, who represent every Black person in the diaspora." Classic white thing to say. Are you even from here, or did you just move here for St. Paul? |
I’ve lived in D.C. for 20 years, in wards 2, 1, 4, and 3. City services have never really seemed better or worse to me because of who my councilmember was. The constituent service funds are used for things like paying rent or utility bills (or, in the case of Jack Evans, buying sports tickets). What specific things that the city does do you think your councilmember is in charge of for your ward? They may be the person you complain to when services aren’t being performed the way you want — because they obviously have more clout with, say, DPW than you do — but the government isn’t run ward by ward as a little fiefdom. |
I think you know who's responsible for that. And I'm sure you know how well lobbying is likely to work as long as the current group of Feds is in control. Seriously, who would you pick to do the lobbying? And what would you have them say? I can't imagine what it would take to get Trump and McConnell to treat DC fairly or with respect. |
You seem to have trouble reading. Try harder. |
Her endorsements generally fair very poorly. Last year she couldn't even get her nominee on the ballot for at-large DC council. |
You beat me to it. Muriel Bowser is the queen of empty platitudes. She started Vision Zero in DC and basically has done nothing to fulfill it. She lets the balck churches bully her into not installing bike lanes on their streets. We have only added two freaking bus lanes (on H and I) in the entire city and pre-Covid they were treated as free parking by commuters and drivers. We have no more protected bike lanes. Both MPD and the city refuse to ticket drivers parked in bike lanes anywhere. Oh yeah, she also backed Mike Bloomberg for president. What a loser. Muriel Bowser seems like a decent person (except for how snippy and short she is with local reporters) but as a politician she's a total joke. We would have been so much better off with David Catania as mayor. |
No, that's not it. The people I know who aren't into her are moderate Democrats who actually pay close attention to city politics and governing. |
I think DC voters are split into three (maybe four) pools: those who vote but have minimal to no involvement with city services other than maybe traffic enforcement. They don't have kids, nevertheless kids in schools, and they have decent jobs and support themselves. Probably live in apartments so they aren't worried about trash being picked up or dudes trashing their yards. Then you have people with some more involvement with city services such as schools. Then you have those who are heavily dependent on city services for many things in their lives. These people are much more likely to depend on individual councilmembers to are able to get things done to help them. |
This is horrifically racist and you should be embarrassed for posting this. |
