Should we buy a Honda Pilot vs Toyota Highlander and why?

Now that dealers are offering years long maintenance packages as part of the deal, buy based on dealer location. They're the same almost minivan for people who need the space but don't want to be seen driving a van

I absolutely LOVE my Honda Pilot. LOVE. It's been 3 years now.

I have driven Audis and other higher end cars---but I always come back to my Hondas.

I agree, and I find Toyotas to be very cheap looking inside.

I haven’t been in a Pilot, but I had a loaner Highlander for a month and I couldn’t believe how cramped the third row was and how non existent the cargo space was with the third row in use. I have three kids and would never buy a Highlander.

Really? I am looking for a new SUV. It's either the highlander or the pilot. I have test driven both. I am going for the Pilot because it is so roomy, and we have 3 kids and carpool for a lot of activities. But finishes, I thought the Highlander was a lot nicer inside and that the Pilot uses a lot of plastic parts which look cheap. I know they either of them is going to be a good family car, but space/comfort Pilot won us over.

A friend of mine survived a horrible, high speed crash in a pilot this spring. They were clipped by a speeding car on the highway, rolled four times. Her whole family got out and walked away from it.

Pilot because of bigger 3rd row.

We're in the market for a car and I think we've decided on the Pilot over the Highlander because the Highlander can't fit 2 car seats and a person in the 2nd row.

LOL. The Highlander was a loaner while my Sienna was waiting for some obscure part (no complaints about the Sienna). After 10 years I’m getting a little tired of the minivan, but there’s really nothing that can replace it in terms of practicality. My teen is over 6’ tall and he and his friends are comfortable riding in the Sienna.

agree with above poster about how practical a mini-van is. We have a pilot. Kids don't love it. They do love the mini-vans we rent on vacation though. Esp my 17 year old, 6 ft+ son.

also, the new pilots look like a mini-van anyways

Recent and current model Pilots are included in Honda’s 1.6 million vehicle recall.

I have a highlander. I’m so damn sick of it, but that thing will never die.

I think they are both very good cars.

The Honda has a little more space in the third row and a little more usable cargo space with the third row folded down.

The Highlander probably looks a bit nicer.
