Why are obsessive animal lovers so annoying to me?

My husband his this visceral reaction to the phrases "fur babies" and "pet parents'. He says that he probably could never be friends with someone who uses these phrases. We worked with a couple that had two labradors that they always referred to as "the boys". They didn't have kids, and their CHristmas card was very confusing every year with all the references to 'the boys' in the newsletter. Lol.

I think it’s great that there are people who love animals and treat pets well. Your friends with pets are just as important as your friends with kids. You would not be annoyed by a friend who couldn’t get a babysitter, so don’t be annoyed with the person who cannot get the pet sitter.

When they cancel plans they use the excuse, “we couldn’t get a dog sitter”. My DH and I are like wth! We’re going to dinner not away for the weekend! So my question is why does this drive me and my DH crazy?? We laugh about it but we also can’t comprehend it and we just want to shake them and tell them it’s an animal ffs. I know I know we love animals too but not at this level I guess.

Maybe they didn't want to go to dinner and had to think of an excuse. Most pet owners are not like that. Sorry!

This would make me wonder if the owners have had bad experiences with kids who did not know how to behave around horses and who scared or even injured the horses, or who got hurt themselves by a frightened horse. There must be more to the story, if these owners are actually participating in a horse-related camp for kids. It's a strange disconnect to participate in a camp like that with your horse yet not allow a child to touch it. Hence my wondering if these owners have had some specific negative experiences.

I had the same thoughts. Another place charge $800/day for a horse “the teacher” summer camp but kids are not allowed to ride the horses.

This reminds me of the old tv show “Mister Ed”

I’ve noticed this too with people who don’t have kids. A friend lost her elderly dogs last Fall and grieved for so long that her co-workers finally told her she needed counseling. I felt bad for her but her co-workers had a point.
