report about Covid-19 getting to placenta

If this thread is so incoherent, why did someone report it so no one here would read it? Thankfully it was placed back here so potential IVF patients can open it and read the links for themselves if they wish to do that.

Incoherence is exactly why one would report a thread.

Also, it’s about pregnancy not infertility. Perhaps you meant to post it in Trying to Conceive so all women trying to get pregnant could see it?

The ASRM guidance is for reproductive medicine. That's why the post is back here and asks what REs are doing about these reports. It is obviously a serious issue facing the field and its patients who need candid ethical advice and information from these clinics.

Thank you. Why is nobody telling women writ large not to get pregnant? People seeking reproductive treatment don’t usually have the luxury of time. It’s completely absurd to counsel women seeking treatment not to get pregnant but not be telling that to women of childbearing age overall (like they did for Zika)

If women trying to get pregnant right now go in for preconception counseling these reports should be discussed by their OB-GYN too. Most women don't see a doctor for preconception counseling. They do for ART though. Each doctor has an ethical duty to disclose information like this. The citations are in the ASRM guidance. They know about this.

Also the greater challenge with a pandemic like Covid-19 is we're all at risk of getting infected with the virus in the next year or so. That wasn't true with Zika. So the new reports that Covid-19 can get to part of the placenta and have devastating effects is a risk that every women should know about before starting ART at the very least.

This is an interview from Medscape regarding these reports

CNN reported on the Northwestern study today

"Covid-19 appears to attack placenta during pregnancy, study says"

More coverage of the placenta issues. This Daily News article states that the ESHRE issued a "statement" against starting IVF in response to these pathological findings but I could not find any statement about this on its website.

"There is an emerging consensus that there are problems with coagulation and blood vessel injury in COVID-19 patients... there might be something clot-forming about coronavirus, and it's happening in the placenta."
