The only Sauls I know of are old Jewish men. I know bringing back “old” is in right now but I feel like Saul hasn’t quite reached that status, needs another 10-20 years. But, I do think it’s a nice name.

As for it being offensive since you’re not Jewish — Christians have been using Jewish names for 2,000 years. If we ever thought it was offensive, we lost that battle centuries ago. Don’t worry about it. (I am Jewish in case this isn’t clear)

^^ PP here. Oops, I see you actually are Jewish, just nonpracticing. It is even more inoffensive then.

The only possible offense is if your Jewish relatives will be upset you are naming after a dead family member.

You are actually supposed to do this. It would be a bigger issue to name a child after a living relative

This.

If Ezra and Silas became popular, than why not Saul?

Anyway, the names I am considering for this baby are so boring and common that I'm trying to think outside the box. So, Saul for a baby boy? (I am Jewish through my mother's side, but my dad's side are scary Southern hate everyone Christians. I wasn't raised with religion. Would a non-religious kid [or a kid of non-religious parents] named Saul be odd or disrespectful?)

Totally dislike and folks have diff pronunciations of the name!

What different pronunciations are there? All I have ever heard is Saul that rhymes with Paul.

I think it's a fine name and I love family names. I once was a counselor to the cutest little Saul at a preschool summer camp. I don't know his religion, but he definitely wasn't an old man.

I think Saul is fine but I do like Solomon better.

Saul is due for a comeback and OP is ahead of the curve. Great name, love it!

I think a meaningful name is a any day better than something that's 'in'. It's not a weird or out there name, it's simple and nice.

+1. Old names are back again. Little girls running around named Olive, Agnes and Hattie. Same for boys.

What about Samuel?

I love it! Go for it, OP!
