I could see refund issues with Rec and Travel, but ECNL is shut up and pay so not seeing how refunds are holding up the process.

When rec funds pay travel coaches you’ll see how they are connected.

ECNL fees pay well beyond the ECNL coaching salaries. That's why large rosters are considered a money making grab. The club doesn't reduce fees in proportion to the amount of players as the number of coaches remains the same, nor does it give the coach the additional difference in fees as a salary boost. There's no incentive for the club to do that--or any club. If refunds is the answer MYS is giving for not having a coaching slate by now, then you're not getting the full story.

Ok. See how long a club of just ECNL teams lasts.

We are talking about McLean here which has rec and non-ECNL travel programs.

Yep. It's an interesting point if the poster means that the club is really fielding only top teams this fall. The question is how much of a contraction we will see among parents and kids who are not soccer-committed. Probably a lot bigger than fallout for top tier kids. All of it is beside the point if these clubs aren't cross-subsidizing their elite teams with revenue from rec and other travel teams, and have sufficient revenue from elite teams to cover fixed costs plus coaches, league and field fees. A lot of bigger clubs allegedly use rec to cross-subsidize travel. I don't know enough to say whether's its true. It's been alleged in other threads.

An interesting distinction. Is McLean not considering fielding regular travel teams this Fall and only doing ECNL?

This seems to be the reason coaches aren't being announced. The need to carry heavy ECNL rosters in order to financially support other programs seems like a foregone conclusion.

Again a wrong assumption. ECNL does not fund the club. The rest of the club funds ECNL. A rec program with little to zero overhead is a cash cow that trickles up, not the other way around.

Fees for Rec, Travel, and ECNL are fairly proportional to the structural coaching costs associated with each group. Field fees, field maintenance, equipment costs, and basic uniforms (unpaid coaches so no coaching costs) are covered in the very low Rec fees. For travel and ECNL, coaches salary and out-of-town travel costs are carried by the team, along with tournament fees. Any leftover Rec money covers all of the other club costs such as non-coach paid salaries (club Director, DOC, and admin staff), advertising, website maintenance, etc.

Not really. There is no rush to make any moves at 08 and most are staying put.

It is if 08's at former DA clubs get nervous about GA and make an exodus to ECNL.

What is there to be nervous about? 08’s, 09’s all have lots of time. No need to rush to a team for a patch. This isn’t 2010 when there were two clear cut teams to join.

The parents moving now are doing so out of fear and it is because they feel they need to get their kid established. Quality players can afford to wait it out wherever they are club/team/league wise.

Must be the parent of a McLean 08. Given the poor state of the team, I would think you would want to get some better players.

Why are there so many ex mclean 08’s playing for other teams? What happened?

They only lost 1 quality player because of a mix up with her offer. A couple of others simply did not make the cut and moved because they did not want to play for the B team.

So offers for the 08 team have gone out?

I referred to the changes from last year. There were no tryouts or offers this year. I presume most clubs are in the same situation.

Bethesda made offers to those already rostered and to a select few outside players who already practiced with McLean.

OP here. The note was obviously sarcastic. Communication at MU and FCV is non-existent.

Yet it is true. All the GA clubs have had zoom calls and know the plan and coaching slates. The communication is obviously better than what McLean and BRYC parents have gotten, at least.

Incorrect, the DA clubs have had zoom meetings. Communication has been very good.

Bethesda made offers to existing Bethesda players and a few outside players but left room for tryouts. I assume McLean will do the same.
