I know a kitten won’t solve things

What a weird think to think about. I honestly can’t say I’ve ever imagined what a co-worker’s house smells like.

DP Not weird at all. Cat people's houses always smell and they are nose blind to it. People who don't have cats think about how your house must smell bad every time you mention your cats (especially if there are more than 2). I have a cousin about 10 states away who puts out food for strays and posted once on Facebook that she had 3 different litters of kittens in her yard at that time (calling them her little angels) and I said to my husband "I feel like I can smell her house from here."

OP - would your DH be okay with fostering? All the kitten cuteness, none of the long-term commitment.

I know you probably won’t believe this because you want to think that all of our houses stink if we have cats, but frequently we have people over to the house and we will mention the cat or a cat will eventually pop out. People are frequently surprised that we have cats and say they would have had no idea. Some of us work really hard to make sure the litter box is cleaned & fresh. What else about a cat would smell?

I believe that's possible because it has happened to me - once. If you're that one family, that's great. But 99.99999% of the time a cat walks into the room the reaction is "oh there it is," not "wow you have a cat?"

We fostered 5 kittens the summer before last. Got them at 5 weeks old. It was great because my youngest were both almost 5 and everyone (but me) was home during the day to socialize them nicely. Got them at 5 weeks old, adopted one of them ourselves and easily placed the other 4...they pretty much sell themselves.
Not so fun was kitty diarrhea, but I treated them for it, the county provided all meds and stuff. At least they were in the big bathroom. Our older tom cat (who we didnt know was un-altered...long story) was great with them.
