What the heck are our kids going to do this summer with no camps and no pools?

I'd charge families $2,000/mo for up to 2 kids in 'camp'. Probably have 3 families at once. No kids under 5.

You’re on a parenting website and you don’t like kids?

I'm here for the finance, real estate, food, and otherwise amusing threads.

That's really sad. I would never be on a kid-focused website if I disliked kids. Why would you take advice from breeders? /s

Stop being so emotional. I bought two of my homes - best investments ever - thanks to things I've learned from DCUM over the years.

While also working our FT jobs? Yes. Sure is.

Mine would play in our pool, watch movies, play outside, read, play on the computer, ride bikes, run through the sprinkler, chase lighten bugs, build forts, ride 4-wheelers, ride horses, mess with the animals, play with cousins who live on the same large property, play in the creek, catch crawdads, eat, make bon fires and s’mores, camp in the yard, ..... so many wonderful summer memories! Of course, travel, visits with friends, the community pool, movie theaters, etc. wouldn’t happen. But they would have had a very relaxed summer. They are grown now. Hopefully, at some point in late summer they’ll be able to come home. They still love to do all those things.

I'm hoping that by summer at least small groups of kids will be okay. I'm a teacher and I'd be happy to help another family during the day by watching their kid(s) to give my only child a playmate.

If we are still stuck with just the two of us, it's going to be a long summer.

Exactly. How the hell am I supposed to entertain my kindergarten and 2nd graders while I'm working all day?

They will survive, and maybe become more creative.

I grew up poor, but I still could play with my friends, go to the city pool, ride my bike, go to the library, visit the free zoo and museums, and travel to my grandparents in New York every summer. I read a lot, but still remember some very long, boring days.

Dad (on admin leave b/c he can't telework) supervises online school, but he's going back to work next month. Once summer starts there won't even be school to occupy their time.

NP here. I am a SAHM and my kids are in ES. My question is not “how will we manage” because obviously we’ll be fine. But if they truly don’t open even the pool or library, outdoor farms, etc. and they can’t play with friends and we can’t go on vacation, then it’s going to be a loooooong tedious sad summer indeed.

It makes me sad just thinking about it. Summer is my favorite time usually.

My kid are old enough to stay at home when I work but what the heck are they going to do home alone for 14 weeks? What about families with young kids? I suppose it will be a terrific time to be a college babysitter.

Wait, what? Did you get a notice of this? My girls are signed up for 3 different sessions and I havent heard anything!

Did you really want to send them?

Of course.
