This makes no sense to me. How would the kids be isolated? They'd all be coming from different places so would they and all the counselors have to live alone for two weeks before camp starts? I truly don't understand what you think is going to happen here.

OP here: my friend is a camp director and said that if they try to start reopening the economy by June/July/August, they'll have to allow camps, because camps provide childcare. they can't reopen the economy without schools and/or camps.

Did they say anything about access to testing? I really think camps can be a safe place as long as they can get their hands on rapid testing to test all the campers coming in or at a minimum as needs arise. The whole problem in this country now is getting more testing!

Our private sleepaway camp also hires ton of staff from the UK, but has been heavily recruiting here in the US and doing fairly well. There are now lots of high school and college kids without summer internships/jobs/travel plans that are willing to work at a camp (if it opens.) I bet the Girl Scouts are trying to do the same.

Your private sleepaway camp? Is it affiliated with a country club?

I meant private in that it is not run by the Girl Scouts or other similar group. It's a standalone camp run by a few couples that own it.

Sleepaway camps are safer than day camps in many ways.

+1 they will focus on testing high risk people, not school kids and their college counselors

I just got something from our camp saying they are planning to open. It’s in Minnesota, which hasn’t been hit hard. I hope it works out. DS has been looking forward to it!

You would have to test each camper everyday, not just once
