I agree there is little guidance. People need to start educating themselves by reading news. Which countries have contained successfully, which have not. Unfortunately only the very strict measures flatten the curve. Stay home, everyone. Social distance means isolate. This virus is highly contagious and love son surfaces for days. What do you think is going to happen if you do a little play date here and there, some shopping, go to work, etc.? |
*lives on surfaces |
No, it doesn't. Social distancing =/= isolation =/= quarantine. Do people honestly not see the difference between large *indoor* gathering places, like schools, concerts, etc., and being *outdoors*? I'm not talking about a mosh pit at an outdoor concert, either. If you really want to practice social distancing, you won't let your kids around grandparents and older relatives. That's bananas. |
Not taking my toddler to visit his grandparents and great grandparents for the next few weeks is “bananas”? |
Think PP meant it would be bananas to take him to visit them! |
We're planning lots of bike rides and hikes to get out energy without surfaces or social contact. |
Us too. Hiking, good. Rugby, bad. |
Right. I did mean that, in reference to the earlier comment that taking kids to the playground would lead them to infect their grandparents and older relatives; that won't happen if we bar contact between our kids and their grandparents and older relatives. Why anyone would choose to avoid a playground and yet still permit contact between their kids and at-risk relatives is beyond me. |
The expert who is most quoted about most cases being mild said today on the NY Times 'The Daily' that he very much regrets saying that. These 80% are still often very sick, 2 weeks being the norm with pneumonias that fall just short of hospitalization need. It is not the flu. Our neighborhood listserve is full of 'oh lets get all the kids together' posts. No thank you!!! We will keep to school hours (luckily our K-8 will send daily class assignments.) I will probably 'board' my niece for the first week as my brother & wife figure out their work, etc. (Their sons are content to stay at home.) We will walk the dog, I'll let the girls ride their bikes but I plan on no additional play dates as of now. |
are we really supposed to be having the kids and us do isolation / quarantine for 2 weeks? If so that has not been communicated clearly to everyone. |
FCPS is closed until April 10. We have a whole month. I got slammed on the travel forum for looking for a spring break driving destination. That was a few days ago. We are not planning to go anywhere now. How things change in just a couple of days. |
Please heed what the medical professionals are saying and not just following the lead of other parents who are being more loose with social distancing practices . This article by an MD/MPH explains why playgrounds are NOT a good idea. https://medium.com/@ariadnelabs/social-distancing-this-is-not-a-snow-day-ac21d7fa78b4 |
Grandparents should be at home avoiding germs. Our grands are. |
As you illustrated, people need to be thinking ahead and planning NOW to modify their behavior in strict ways. Things are escalating rapidly. Flatten the curve, people. |
I’m very worried that Olney will become ground zero since the cool parents were out drinking last night at (our very many) local bars and that behavior will likely continue 24/7 with schools being closed. Heck, one of the local beer farms posted a “pony express” delivery system. |
